Interim Controller

Location: Arvada, CO. (on-site)Salary Range: $120,000 - $145,000Position OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled Interim Controller to partner with operational leadership and drive financial performance within a complex, project-based environment. This Interim Controller will play a critical role in overseeing financial reporting, managing Work-in-Progress (WIP) accounting, and supporting a high-volume portfolio of active projects. The ideal candidate brings strong construction or manufacturing experience, deep knowledge of percentage-of-completion accounting, and a hands-on leadership style.Core ResponsibilitiesThe Interim Controller will be responsible for the following key functions: Month-End Close & WIP Management (50%)Lead month-end close processes with heavy focus on percentage-of-completion accountingManage WIP schedules across 200–300 concurrent projectsCoordinate with Project Managers and Project Accountants to validate cost, revenue recognition, and project statusAnalyze margins, under/over billings, and budget varianceFacilitate preliminary and final WIP reviews with senior leadership Financial Oversight & Reporting (20%)Ensure accurate financial reporting, including revenue recognition and cost trackingPerform variance analysis across direct costs, fleet, and project expensesSupport executive-level financial presentations and insights Operational Leadership (20%)Oversee AP, AR, Payroll, Procurement, Warehouse operations, and IT/Helpdesk functionsDrive process improvements and ensure adherence to closing timelinesPartner cross-functionally to ensure financial controls and data integrity Special Projects & Asset Management (10%)Lead CAPEX initiatives, fleet and fixed asset reviewsExecute ad hoc financial analyses and operational improvement projectsMonth-End Close Process SnapshotThe Interim Controller will drive a structured close process including:Shutting down receiving and ensuring all procurement activity is recordedEnsuring AP is fully captured and recognizedValidating billing accuracy and AR flowConducting job reviews with project teams for cost/revenue alignmentPerforming variance analysis and identifying discrepanciesLeading WIP review meetings, including executive-level presentationsMust-Have QualificationsCore Competencies & RequirementsStrong experience with percentage-of-completion (POC) accountingProven financial reporting and variance analysis expertiseBackground in construction or manufacturing environmentsExperience with large ERP systems (Spectrum Viewpoint preferred)Demonstrated ability to manage both processes and teamsAdvanced Excel proficiencyIdeal Candidate ProfileThe successful Interim Controller is a proactive, business-minded leader who can translate financial data into operational insights.
