With over 30 years of experience, ICON Builders has completed the construction or renovation of more than 26,000 affordable housing units.Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site role for a Human Resources Generalist located in Tempe, AZ. The HR Generalist is responsible for executing core HR operations with a primary focus on payroll accuracy, compliance, and employee data integrity. This role ensures the day-to-day HR foundation runs efficiently supporting a growing workforce while maintaining strict adherence to federal, state, and industry regulations.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESPayroll & HR Operations Oversee weekly payroll to ensure accuracy and timeliness  Maintain payroll inputs including new hires, terminations, pay changes, deductions, and job costing updates Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies prior to final submission Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws Partner with Finance/Accounting as needed for payroll reporting and GL accuracy Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of all payroll data HR AdministrationMaintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in HR systems Ensure HR documentation is completed, stored, and compliant Manage employee HR inquiriesBenefits AdministrationAdminister employee benefits enrollment, changes, and terminations Act as liaison with benefits providers and brokers Support employees with benefits questions and issue resolution Leave & Compliance ManagementManage employee leave of absence tracking (FMLA, medical, personal) Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company leave policies Maintain accurate documentation and reporting for audits and compliance reviews Manage HR compliance requirements (I-9s, labor law postings, etc.) Onboarding & Offboarding SupportPartner with Chief of Staff on onboarding logistics and employee retention initiativesEnsure completion of all required new hire documentation Support offboarding processes including system removal and documentation HR Systems & ReportingMaintain HRIS accuracy and employee data integrity Support HR reporting for leadership (headcount, turnover, compliance tracking, payroll summaries) Assist with system improvements and process automation HR Projects & SupportSupport HR initiatives Assist in implementation of HR policies, SOPs, and process improvements Participate in HR-related audits QUALIFICATIONSRequired3–5+ years of HR experience (operations, compliance, or generalist role) Strong understanding of HR compliance (FLSA, FMLA, I-9, etc.) Working knowledge of multi-state employment practices, recognizing employment laws, leave policies, and compliance requirements vary by jurisdiction Experience with benefits administration and HR systems High attention to detail and accuracy with data Strong communication and employee service mindset Ability to manage confidential information appropriately PreferredExperience in construction, or multi-site workforce environments HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) Experience with HRIS and payroll systems (UKG – a plus) Experience supporting both office and field team membersCore CompetenciesExecution and operational discipline Accuracy and compliance focus Professional judgment and confidentiality Work EnvironmentAbility to work within the position’s schedule at our Tempe, AZ location (M – F, 8am-5pm)Fast-paced, high-growth construction environment Requires responsiveness, flexibility, and strong prioritization skills
