Principal Structural Design Engineer
Description:Our client headquartered in Virginia is seeking a Principal Structural Design Engineer based in Huntsville, AL. The position reports to the Manager of Engineering and offers a hybrid workplace with two remote days. The Principal Structural Design Engineer will provide missile airframe engineering leadership and serve as a technical expert for missile and projectile airframe designs.The ideal candidate has proven expertise in aerodynamic design and simulation with weapons systems. Possesses effective technical writing, presentation and communication skills.Duties/Responsibilities:Design and modify missile airframe structuresPerform analysis of airframe and lead design reviewsUtilize tools to design, refine and analyze aerodynamic performanceResponsible for all aspects of interfaces to host platforms or howitzersPerform test and tracking of Weight, Center of Gravity (CG) and Moment of Inertia (MOI)Achieve technical, program/system requirements and customer compliance milestones throughout the product development cycleConduct trade studies for the development and optimization of airframe concepts and architectures in support of new and existing programsSkills/Requirements:Aerodynamics engineering expertiseProficient with CAD models, particularly with airframesAerospace structural design and analysis experience (preferably Missile / Projectile / Railgun / Flight Vehicle / Supersonic / Hypersonic)Metallic and composite materials knowledgeMATLAB, Python, C++ or other high-level programming languageExposure to CFD modeling softwareAbaqus FEA a plusQualifications:12+ Years of experience in Aerodynamics10+ Years of CAD, preferably Siemens NX or Catia V52+ Years of Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation and analysisBachelor’s degree from accredited four-year College or University in Engineering, preferably Aerospace, Aeronautical, Aerodynamics or Mechanical Engineering (Master’s or PhD a plus)Must be US Citizen and eligible to obtain US DoD Secret Clearance (active clearance a plus)Benefits:Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance3 Weeks Vacation & Year-End Time OffPaid Holidays & Sick LeaveHybrid & Flexible Work Environment401K Contribution & MatchingEducation ReimbursementRelocation Package
