Undergraduate Advisor
The Undergraduate Advisor (UA) serves as the primary professional responsible for ensuring that the advising needs, both academic and developmental, of students are attended to. Including, consultation with and referrals to other college departments/services as student needs may require. The UA works to ensure that students have the tools for success within the college environment through individual meetings and classroom instruction.
Responsibilities of the UA:
Provide holistic advising and support to undergraduate students including, curricular requirements, academic expectations, academic polices, and academic success
Maintain systematic and frequent interaction with approximately 350 undergraduate students required to seek advising and maintain accurate and detailed records of student interactions
Maintain an adaptable work schedule to meet the needs of the undergraduate student
Function as point of contact for academic questions, concerns, policy, and important dates (add/drop, withdraw, audit, finals, etc.)
Assist students in understanding their academic preparation and develop action plans for academic success
Review individualized schedules and reports regarding academic course selection
Advise Certificate, Associate, and Bachelor degree seeking undergraduate students
Assist students in consideration of goals and evaluation of progress toward established goals
Assist students in selecting appropriate degree programs, developing educational plans to meet degree requirements, and building schedules to meet short term goals
Advocate for undergraduate student success in the classroom and with campus accessibility/participation
Create and maintain information, reports and procedures in the advising module of the student information system and online portal.
Serve as lead instructor for Freshman Seminar and teach or co-teach four sections.
Facilitate all virtual and in person placement testing (Right Start Planning days)
Maintain placement testing information including student testing information, placement scores, proctor modules, placement testing coding, and course placement
Participate in campus events including: Orientation, Open Houses, and Commencement
Participate in campus committees
Hours may be adjusted based on events and student need
Participate in undergraduate retention efforts utilizing a systemic and academic programing model in person and virtual setting
Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Masters degree required. Advising experience required. High level of comfort with computer applications. Supplemental Instruction experience or training preferred. Experience with an institution with a specialized mission or with enrollment below 1,500 preferred.
