Director, Clinical Services (DCS)
Location: Carmel, IN (Office-based with field responsibilities)
Overview
An innovative, well-funded hospice startup is seeking a Director of Clinical Services (DCS) to oversee clinical operations and help scale a high-quality, patient-centered hospice program. This hands-on, working nurse leadership role is ideal for a seasoned hospice case manager ready to take the next step—or a hospice clinical leader who thrives in a growth-focused, mission-driven environment.
The DCS will partner closely with the Executive Director and play a critical role in team development, compliance oversight, and care delivery excellence. This is a unique opportunity to help build and shape the clinical foundation of a hospice organization in growth mode.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the clinical operations lead and trusted partner to the Executive Director
Provide hands-on clinical leadership while maintaining an active patient caseload as needed
Oversee patient admissions, care planning, and IDG (Interdisciplinary Group) meetings
Review clinical documentation, monitor quality outcomes, and ensure compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation and state regulations
Manage clinical staff scheduling and ensure appropriate coverage and productivity
Coach, mentor, and support nurses, aides, and interdisciplinary team members
Step in as acting/pseudo Executive Director during leadership PTO or absences when needed
Participate in strategic planning and help scale the clinical model as census grows
Monitor performance metrics and clinical outcomes; implement corrective actions as needed
Foster a culture of high-quality hospice care, accountability, and compassion
Travel locally within the assigned territory as required
What We’re Looking For
Active RN license in Indiana
Required hospice experience — minimum 2+ years in hospice, either:
Strong hospice case management experience, or
Hospice clinical leadership experience
Comfortable in a working nurse role, balancing leadership responsibilities with patient care
Passion for hospice and delivering exceptional, patient-centered end-of-life care
Ability to lead with energy and purpose—someone who is infectious in their commitment to quality
Open to candidates with strong hospice longevity who are ready for their next step, but may not have upward mobility in their current organization
Confident running IDG meetings, managing schedules, and overseeing documentation and quality standards
Leadership presence with the ability to act in the ED’s role when needed
Growth-minded, adaptable, and comfortable in a startup or scaling environment
Strong communication, organizational, and coaching skills
Familiarity with CHAP standards a plus
BSN or MSN preferred (or degree in Healthcare Administration or related field)
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary: $110,000 – $115,000
Bonus: Up to 20% performance-based incentive
Mileage reimbursement: $0.67/mile
Technology stipend: $40/month
