Position Summary
Construct, repair and maintain metal portions of assigned City facilities and equipment using welding methods and techniques; review work orders and assess equipment and materials required for each task; respond to emergencies and perform field repairs and perform other technical maintenance duties relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
High school diploma or GED plus two (2) years technical training in metal technology, welding, or fabrication; and
Two (2) years welding experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's license or the ability to obtain one by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of AWS (American Welding Society) Welder Certification preferred.

Methods, materials and equipment used in the welding field
Working properties of steel and other structural metals
Metallurgy, metal alloys and their characteristics
OSHA rules, codes and regulations
Principles and procedures of record keeping
Mathematical computations
Proper current and amps for specific welding application
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
Preferred Skills & Abilities
Operate a variety of welding equipment in a safe and effective manner
Read and interpret blue prints and specifications
Layout and design projects within specifications
Repair and maintain a variety of City equipment and structures
Operate chop saw, grinder, and lift
Analyze potential structural failures and make necessary reinforcements
Work independently in the absence of supervision
Communicate clearly and concisely
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
