Accounting Manager (Fairfax County)

Manage and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reportingPrepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAPMaintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial proceduresOversee general ledger activity, account reconciliations, journal entries, and balance sheet analysisLead technical accounting research and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standardsSupport annual audits and coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party partnersAnalyze financial results and provide insights to leadership to support strategic decision-makingPartner closely with land development, construction, and operational teams to ensure accurate project costing and financial trackingDrive process improvements and system enhancements to increase efficiency and reporting accuracyMentor and develop accounting staff while fostering a high-performance team environmentQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldCPA strongly preferred5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior public accounting experience requiredExperience transitioning from public accounting into private industry preferredHomebuilding, construction, real estate development, or project-based accounting experience is highly preferredStrong technical knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirementsExperience managing audits and working with external auditorsAdvanced Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systemsStrong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilitiesExcellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
