Job Title – Equipment Operator Position Description: As Equipment Operator you will operate, maintain, and transport a variety of makes and models of heavy equipment and on highway vehicles in support of vegetation management and tree trimming operations such as a skid steer or excavator. Work may be performed within the minimum approach distance of energized power lines and around critical infrastructure.Supervisory Position: NoResponsibilities And RequirementsWork under supervision to support vegetation management operationsMaintain certification and qualification to work within the minimum approach distance of energized power lines.Assist crew members with equipment setup, performance, and maintenancePerform loading, unloading, and hauling of heavy equipmentMaintain the ability to safely, and efficiently operate a variety of makes and models of heavy equipment in varying terrain and environmental conditionsPerform preventative maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of on highway and off highway equipmentManage teams to complete repairs and overhauls of on highway and off highway equipmentMaintain knowledge and ability to safely rig objects or equipment for lifting and haulingMaintain inventories, schedule repairs and order partsMust work well within a team to complete projects and tasksMust be able to regularly lift 50lbs or moreMust be able to work outdoors, year-round in varying environmentsMust be able to work in, around and amongst poisonous plants and noxious vegetationOther duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesKnowledge to operate and haul equipment in accordance with industry guidance and standardsKnowledge and ability to repair, refurbish or fix heavy equipmentApply knowledge of new and emerging technologies and equipment to business operationsAbility to receive direction or guidanceAbility to work within a teamAbility to communicate well with othersProblem solving skillsRecognition of safety hazardsProbationary Period90-day probation period if previously a member or IBEW 1245180-day probation period if not a previous member of IBEW 1245TravelThis position is expected to travel to project sites and locations within California (Operating Area)Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Sites can be very hot and dusty.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:Education: High School DiplomaExperience: 3-5 years of experience operating heavy equipmentCommercial Driver License: Class A or BValid Driver LicensePreferred QualificationsEquipment repair or maintenance certifications/licensingEquipment Operating licensesQualified Applicator License (QAL)Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC)
