Client Strategy Lead - aka. Marketing & Advertising Account Executive
About BackflipBackflip is a creative marketing agency based in Madison, Wisconsin. We lead with story-driven video marketing – and we don’t stop at content. We own strategy, execution, and outcomes across digital, social, and paid media. Think high-end commercials and consistent story-driven social media marketing at all scales. We’re not your grandmothers ad agency. We’re the one clients call when what they’re doing isn’t working. We work best with partners who want growth, not just deliverables – and we operate best when the people on our team feel the same way.| Small team. Real ownership. Work that’s supposed to actually do something. The RoleThis is not a passive account management role. We’re looking for a leader to build with us.As Backflip’s Account Executive, you own client relationships and drive marketing strategy forward. You’re the connective tissue between clients and our internal team – but more importantly, you’re the person making sure what we build matters to their business. Guiding the marketing to something True, Good, and Beautiful (and converting). You don’t just manage projects. You challenge assumptions, ask better questions, help clients see what they’re missing, and push the work to actually perform. You create direction – you don’t wait for it.What you'll doClient leadership - Own the day-to-day relationship for your accounts. Guide conversations, move decisions forward, and turn client feedback into clear direction for the team. You’re the one making sure things don’t stall – and that clients always know where things stand and why.Strategic ownership - Build a deep understanding of each client’s business model, audience, and growth goals – then translate that into clear marketing direction, especially around video-led strategy. Push back when the work drifts off strategy. Know the difference between what a client asks for and what they need.Drive results - Keep asking: Is this working? Is this moving the needle? What needs to change? Help clients connect content and campaigns to real outcomes – leads, revenue, audience growth. You’re not done when the content ships.Creative collaboration - Write clear creative briefs. Give feedback that sharpens the work. Collaborate across video production, digital, social, paid, PR, and strategy to keep everything aligned from concept through launch – and advocate for ideas that genuinely serve the client’s audience.Business development - Spot opportunities to grow accounts organically. Show up for new business conversations when the moment calls for it. At Backflip, the AE is never far from the agency’s growth story – and that’s by design.Scope & financial stewardship - Understand scope, timelines, and budgets. Protect the team from scope creep. Help clients understand what’s in scope – and what isn’t – with confidence, not apology. Keep billing accurate and documentation clean.QualificationsAccount management skills including client communication, relationship building, and project coordinationStrong understanding of marketing strategies, advertising principles, and campaign executionKnowledge of digital marketing and advertising tools, including PPC, social media advertising, and SEOExperience in strategy development, branding, and managing creative projects like video production and web design3+ years of experience in an agency, marketing, or client-facing roleStrong communication skills and confidence working with clients at all levels – from founders to CMOsThe ability to manage multiple priorities without losing the details or the threadStrategic thinking, not just task management – you know the differenceComfort making the difficult phone call and having the hard conversation – with clients and internallyGenuine curiosity about audiences, messaging, and what actually drives resultsHigh standards – you don’t let “good enough” slide, and you hold the work to what it could beAI familiarity and comfortability utilizing AI tools to get further fasterBonus PointsExperience in video marketing, content strategy, or integrated campaignsFamiliarity with Catholic or mission-driven organizations (this is one of our target demographics)
