This is an early-career role for someone with strong ML fundamentals, real curiosity, and a drive to ship production systems.You'll work alongside senior ML engineers on the AI behind Parspec's product catalog: search, ranking, recommendations, NLP, and document extraction. You'll own real components from day one, with scope that grows as you do.What You'll DoSearch, Ranking & RecommendationsContribute to hybrid search systems that combine keyword retrieval with dense vector embeddingsHelp develop and evaluate recommendation models for product discovery and personalizationImplement and experiment with retrieval, ranking, and re-ranking approaches under guidance from senior engineersWork with vector databases and embedding pipelines to improve search relevance across millions of productsNLP & Document ExtractionBuild and improve NLP pipelines for construction domain tasks like entity extraction, classification, and text understandingContribute to document extraction systems that turn PDFs, spec sheets, and product catalogs into structured dataExperiment with LLM-based approaches (prompting, RAG pipelines) for domain-specific information retrievalDebug model behavior. Understand why a model is wrong, instead of retraining and hopingData & Pipeline WorkBuild and maintain data pipelines for model training and evaluationCreate, clean, and curate labeled datasets. Data quality is a first-class problem hereBuild evaluation frameworks for search relevance and extraction accuracyInstrument models with metrics and monitoring to catch regressions earlyProduct ContributionWork with product managers and senior engineers to turn business problems into ML solutionsParticipate in the full lifecycle, from prototyping through deploymentOwn specific components or features end-to-end, with increasing scope over timeUse AI tools (Claude Code, Copilot) as part of your daily workflow. You've trained models, not just followed tutorials, and you understand why things work, not just how to call a function. You write code other people can read, and you care about getting the details right.You're comfortable with ambiguity. You don't need a perfectly scoped ticket to make progress. When something breaks, you debug it methodically rather than guessing.You already use LLMs, Copilot, or similar tools in your own workflow. You see AI-augmented development as a multiplier.You want to work on hard, real problems with messy data. You'd rather build a document extraction pipeline that handles thousands of noisy PDFs than tune a metric on a clean benchmark. You care about impact, and you want to learn from people who've shipped production AI.Why This MattersConstruction is one of the last major industries to be digitized. Most of the data is buried in PDFs, spec sheets, and product catalogs that were never designed for machines to read. You'll be building the AI that makes this data accessible, searchable, and useful.Minimum QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related fieldExperience: 0-2 years in ML/AI (internships, academic projects, or early-career roles count)ML Fundamentals: Solid grasp of supervised and unsupervised learning, bias-variance tradeoff, regularization, and cross-validationDeep Learning: Working knowledge of CNNs, transformers, training loops, and loss functionsNLP or Search: Exposure to text processing, embeddings, retrieval, or information extractionPython: Proficient beyond notebooks. Can write clean, testable code with NumPy, Pandas, and scikit-learnFrameworks: Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow. You've trained models, not just called APIsEngineering Basics: Familiar with Git, collaborative development workflows, and writing code others can maintainMindset: Strong problem-solving, curiosity, and a bias toward shippingPreferred QualificationsExperience with search or recommendation systems (academic or personal projects count)Familiarity with vector databases (Pinecone, Qdrant, Milvus, FAISS)Exposure to LLMs. Has used APIs, built simple RAG pipelines, or experimented with fine-tuningExperience with OCR, PDF parsing, or document processingUnderstanding of search evaluation metrics (nDCG, MRR, precision@k)Cloud platform basics (AWS, GCP).
