Patient Care Assistant - SDS
Job DescriptionUnder the direction and supervision of the Charge Nurse and Nurse Manager, the Patient Care Assistant helps prepare patients for surgery and assists them after surgery. This includes but is not limited to: Help patients to the bathroom Room patients when they arrive and on discharge to home, transports patients to their car Wipe down equipment and carts, sets up rooms for next patient and wipes down surgical carts after each use Collect patient data including vital signs and weights Perform glucose testing and shaving as needed Restock area with supplies Responsible for coordination of communications and procedures for the nursing unit, process electronic orders and assembling patient’s charts and other necessities.Work Schedule: 0.5 FTE; 20 hrs weekly, Mon-Fri Day/Eve hoursRequired Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Current BLS – American Heart Association or BLS – American Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer & Health Care Provider) AND completion of a nursing assistant program OR Experience in an acute care or long-term care setting as a Nursing Assistant (6 months at a minimum of .5 FTE) OR Experience as an Emergency Room Technician (6 months at a minimum of .5 FTE) Must have strong organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills with a customer-service orientation. Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Demonstrates basic computers skills or the ability to achieve proficiency within 3 months. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with patients, visitors, and co-workers. Ability to independently initiate appropriate tasks within the scope of practice of the position. Ability to provide individualized care and respond to a variety of patient/family preferences. Ability to provide an exceptional patient experience utilizing strong customer service skills. Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively.
