Job ResponsibilitiesCareers at DPH: Work that makes a difference!Embracing Service, Inspiring Innovation, Promoting Teamwork, Pursuing Excellence, and Advancing EquityUnder the supervision of the Advanced Molecular Detection Supervisor, the technologist performs advanced Molecular laboratory procedures for outbreak detection and identification including of existing and emerging Public Health pathogens of interest, utilizing Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS), Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), and Norovirus amplification, purification and sequencing protocols.Perform Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) testing on microbial isolates (including but not limited to Salmonella, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE), Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), Campylobacter, Vibrio, and Listeria). Operates and maintains equipment, as well as maintaining up-to date records of instrument and equipment maintenance and function verification checks. Perform molecular testing for Norovirus including conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR), sample purification, and sequencing analysis. Must maintain time and volume requirements for WGS and Norovirus testing as directed by grants. Perform next-generation sequencing (NGS) on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), Influenza, and other viral and bacterial specimens as protocols are introduced. Must maintain (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) WGS and Norovirus sequencing certifications through PulseNet and CalicNet for test performance and perform necessary quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) activities. QA and QC records must be kept up-to date and maintained for accuracy to document compliance with laboratory regulatory and accreditation agencies’ guidelines, standards, and regulations. Continuously exhibit excellent communication and written skills of technical information to state SC DPH, epidemiological counterparts, CDC, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Must maintain up-to date records of all supplies and reagents that are used for testing, as well as maintaining adequate supply amounts at all times.
