The middle school baseball program is an important part of the athletic pipeline and serves as a key feeder into Palmview High School Baseball. This position offers the opportunity to shape young athletes through instruction, leadership, and a commitment to excellence.QUALIFICATIONSEducation/Certification:Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferredValid Texas Teaching Certificate preferredValid CPR and First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain Experience:Coaching experience at the middle school or high school level preferredExperience playing baseball preferredExperience working with adolescent students in athletics or school settings preferred Special Knowledge and Skills:Knowledge of baseball fundamentals, rules, and player developmentAbility to teach and develop foundational baseball skills appropriate for middle school athletesUnderstanding of UIL, district, and campus athletic expectationsStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsAbility to build positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and communityCommitment to safety, supervision, and student character development MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESAthletic Program LeadershipDevelop and implement a strong middle school baseball program focused on fundamentals, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanshipTeach core baseball skills including throwing, fielding, hitting, base running, and game awarenessCreate practice plans that are age-appropriate, organized, and aligned to program goalsFoster a competitive and positive team culture that emphasizes effort, accountability, and growthSupport the development of student-athletes as they transition into the Palmview High School baseball feeder systemCollaborate with district and high school coaching staff to ensure vertical alignment in philosophy and skill developmentIdentify and develop student talent while promoting participation and inclusion Student DevelopmentModel and teach character, leadership, responsibility, and sportsmanshipMaintain high expectations for student behavior, academic progress, and team commitmentMonitor athlete eligibility, attendance, and academic standing in collaboration with campus staffEncourage student-athletes to take pride in representing Memorial Middle School and La Joya ISD Compliance and SafetyEnsure compliance with UIL, TEA, district, and campus policies and proceduresSupervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and related activitiesMaintain safe practices and proper use of equipment and facilitiesFollow all district expectations related to safety protocols, emergency procedures, and student supervisionMaintain current CPR, First Aid, and other required certifications Communication and Community EngagementCommunicate effectively with parents, students, administrators, and fellow coachesPromote positive relationships with families and stakeholders in support of the baseball programRepresent Memorial Middle School and La Joya ISD with professionalism and integrity at all timesSupport campus and district athletic events, meetings, and initiatives as assigned Professional ResponsibilitiesParticipate in campus and district professional development and meetingsWork collaboratively with the principal, athletic coordinator, and coaching staff to support athletic department goalsUphold district values and expectations in all professional responsibilitiesMaintain accurate records related to rosters, equipment, schedules, and student participation WORKING CONDITIONSMental Demands:Maintain emotional control under stressHandle multiple priorities and deadlinesWork effectively in a fast-paced school environment Physical Demands:Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and movement during practices and gamesAbility to lift and move athletic equipment up to 50 poundsAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Work Environment:Outdoor athletic fields, gyms, locker rooms, classrooms, and school facilitiesEvening and weekend duties for games, practices, and events may be requiredTravel with student-athletes for competitions and related activities may be required POSITION WORKING DAYS
