Nurse Practitioner - Oncology

Oncology practice in Georgia is looking for a Nurse Practitioner for the Cumming location. NP is responsible for providing professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary contact between patients, staff and physicians and reports to Director of Clinical Operations.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1.Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.2.Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment. Works in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up. Evaluates the quality of care provided and recommends changes for improvement.3.Coordinates prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, and therapeutic measures, in accordance with written practice protocols.4.Requests written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.5.Dictates progress notes and follow-up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response, and plan.6.Interprets and evaluates findings of studies/tests.7.Relays appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.8.Performs procedures to obtain specimens as needed, including bone marrow biopsies and lumbar puncture.9.Educates patient/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, side effect management, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.10.Maintains/reviews accurate patient records, charts and other pertinent information. 11.Maintains patient confidentiality.12.Provides back-up support for administration of prescribed medications, chemotherapy and treatments in accordance with nursing standards and practice policies and physician orders. Direct chemotherapy administration support is provided during times of critical staffing need or workload restructure.
