The Crystal Lake Park District is looking for a hands-on, team-oriented Athletic Field Maintenance Assistant to support the maintenance and operation of our premier athletic facilities.
Work Schedule:
TuesdayThursday: 7:00 AM 11:00 AM
Saturday & Sunday: 9:00 AM 5:00 PM
This role requires flexibility based on field use and weather conditions, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
What You'll Do
You'll play a key role in keeping our fields game-ready and looking their best:
Assist in maintaining and setting up baseball and softball fields at Lippold Park and Veterans Acres.
Drag, line, groom, and repair infields, mounds, and home plates.
Support turf care including mowing, trimming, fertilizing, and irrigation.
Help coordinate daily work schedules and assist with training part-time staff.
Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, utility vehicles, and infield groomers.
Assist with field lighting setup and maintenance.
Monitor contracted work to ensure quality standards are met.
Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and facilities.
Pitch in with snow and ice removal during winter months.
Keep tools, equipment, and workspaces organized and in top condition.
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
At least 1 year of experience in groundskeeping, field maintenance, or similar work preferred.
Baseball/softball field prep experience is a big plus.
Certifications (or willingness to obtain)
Illinois Pesticide Operator's License
CPR/AED Certification
Skills & Strengths
Knowledge of field setup, turf care, irrigation, and basic equipment maintenance.
Ability to safely operate tools and machinery.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
Solid time management and attention to detail.
Physical & Work Environment
Work outdoors in all kinds of weathersun, rain, heat, and even snow.
Perform physical labor including lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, and standing for extended periods.
Exposure to equipment noise, fertilizers, and maintenance materials.
