CFPA was founded as Hollywood Senior Center in 1973, a nonprofit committed to creating an uplifting and vibrant environment for adults 55 and older while providing a channel for intergenerational relationships and learning. In July 2021, HSC expanded by absorbing The Giving Tree, another not-for-profit organization, committed to providing residential services to people living in affordable housing, including access to culturally-specific food, throughout Portland; merger of these two organizations form CFPA.,Support the Community for Positive Aging's Golden Treasures Gift Shop which not only provides financial support to the Community for Positive Aging but also provides opportunity for local senior consignors.BenefitsBe a part of a dynamic team and build community with the Gift Shop crew and the larger Community for Positive Aging's volunteer community. Get involved and meet new people and build relationships with fellow volunteers, consignors, regular customers, staff, and CFPA participants.Learn new skills and gain experience in a retail setting.DUTIES & ACTIVITIESGreet and offer assistance to customersAnswer Gift Shop phone and respond to messagesRestock and organize store merchandiseTrack and balance cash and charge card receipts and transactionsReceive incoming consignor merchandise and donations itemsTrack and process all incoming items; price and tag donation itemsClean, vacuum, and tidy up shop as needed Follow procedures for opening and/or closing of shop, ensuring shop security Qualifications & SkillsFriendly, outgoing demeanor and excellent customer service skillsBe reliable and dependableAbility to work independently and/or with co-volunteersBasic math skills and knowledge of basic principles of cashieringAbility/willingness to learn to operate cash register and credit card machineAbility to accurately handle cash, make change, and complete paperworkCommitment to CFPA’s mission and values, including promoting diversity, equality, and inclusionUp-to-date on Covid-19 vaccination - including boosterPHYSICAL DEMANDS Regularly requires standing, frequently involves walking and bending, and occasionally requires lifting and carrying up to 10lbs.
