ICC Soils Inspector

Job Title: ICC Soils Inspector (Caltrans Experience Required)Position OverviewWe are seeking a qualified ICC-certified Soils Inspector with Caltrans project experience to support infrastructure and transportation projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. This role involves inspection, testing coordination, and documentation of earthwork and soil-related construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, Caltrans standards, and applicable codesKey ResponsibilitiesPerform field inspections of soil, grading, and earthwork operations on Caltrans and local agency projectsVerify compliance with project plans, specifications, Caltrans Standard Specifications, and geotechnical recommendationsMonitor excavation, fill placement, compaction, subgrade preparation, and trench backfill operationsObserve and document moisture conditioning and compaction testing activitiesCoordinate with field technicians and laboratories to ensure proper sampling and testing (Proctor, density, etc.)Review and interpret geotechnical reports, plans, and specificationsMaintain detailed daily inspection reports, logs, and photo documentationCommunicate deficiencies and non-compliance issues to contractors and project managersAttend construction meetings as requiredEnsure compliance with safety protocols and Caltrans requirementsRequired QualificationsCurrent ICC Soils Special Inspector Certification (Soils)Demonstrated experience on Caltrans projects (highly preferred / required depending on employerStrong knowledge of Caltrans Standard Plans & SpecificationsFamiliarity with ASTM, AASHTO, and CBC standards related to soils inspectionAbility to read and interpret construction documents and grading plansValid driver's license and reliable transportationAbility to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
