Quality Control Lead (Manager/Technician) - Ready Mix Concrete

Job Summary:The Quality Control Lead is a hands-on role that combines field and laboratory testing responsibilities with leadership and oversight of quality control operations. This position is responsible for performing daily testing and inspections while also managing quality processes, ensuring compliance with specifications, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across ready-mix concrete operations.Key Responsibilities:Perform field and laboratory testing of concrete and raw materials (aggregates, cement, admixtures)Conduct standard tests including slump, air content, temperature, and compressive strengthCollect, prepare, and document samples in accordance with ASTM/AASHTO standardsMonitor batching operations to ensure adherence to approved mix designsReview test results for accuracy and compliance; communicate findings to operations and managementTroubleshoot quality issues in real time and implement corrective actionsAssist in developing, adjusting, and optimizing mix designs for performance and costMaintain calibration and proper functioning of all testing equipmentEnsure accurate recordkeeping, reporting, and audit readinessProvide guidance and informal supervision to QC technicians and plant personnelServe as a point of contact for customers, inspectors, and internal teams regarding quality mattersSupport training of staff on testing procedures, quality standards, and best practicesTrack key quality metrics and contribute to continuous improvement effortsEnsure compliance with safety policies, environmental regulations, and company standardsQualifications:High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction materials, or related field preferredACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certification required (or ability to obtain quickly)3–7 years of experience in ready-mix concrete quality control or related fieldStrong working knowledge of concrete materials, mix design, and ASTM/AASHTO testing standardsExperience with DOT specifications and construction project requirements preferredAbility to balance hands-on testing with leadership and decision-making responsibilitiesStrong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skillsEffective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionallyProficiency with basic computer systems and reporting toolsPhysical Requirements:Ability to work in laboratory, plant, and outdoor construction environmentsFrequent lifting (up to 50 lbs), standing, walking, bending, and kneelingAbility to travel between plant locations and job sites as neededWork Schedule:Full-time; may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime based on operational needsWork Environment:Combination of lab, plant, and field settingsExposure to dust, noise, heavy equipment, and varying weather conditionsCompensation & Benefits:Competitive pay based on experienceHealth, dental, and vision insuranceRetirement plan optionsPaid time off and holidaysTraining and certification support
