POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Pittsburgh Sports League (PSL) PUMP and PSL Overview The Pittsburgh Sports League (PSL) is a social enterprise housed within the nonprofit PUMP which was founded in 1996. PUMP’s mission is to make Pittsburgh the most dynamic and diverse place by engaging, educating, and mobilizing all young people to effect change in our community. Each year, we serve nearly 30,000 individuals, primarily under the age of 40, through our advocacy, civic, social, and recreational programming. The PSL is the premier provider of adult, mainly mixed gender, recreational sports leagues in the Pittsburgh region. Founded in the fall of 2000, the PSL started as a flag football league of 150 participants. Today, the PSL provides over 20,000 participants an opportunity to play and socialize making it PUMP’s largest “social networking” program. The PSL runs 4 seasons a year (winter, spring, summer, and fall) with up to 15 sports per season. Position Description The PSL Events and Officials Manager is a full-time position which utilizes remote, in office, and on-location working environments and requires some evening and weekend hours, all while allowing for a flexible schedule. This person will be responsible for managing and implementing all PSL event logistics. Current annual programming includes events such as Kickball for a Cause, service projects, and play solos. Additional events or tournaments may be developed by the PSL Events and Officials Manager, which will be derived from research based on the organization’s needs. Another requirement of the position is to manage all PSL officials. As the main point of contact, this position will require development and execution of strategies for recruiting, onboarding, retaining, rewarding, developing, training, and evaluating officials. This position also requires the ability to be creative and innovative when it comes to enhancing the PSL experience as well as developing new programming while supporting existing programming. The PSL Events and Officials Manager reports directly to the PSL Director and works as part of a team of professionals who serve PSL and PUMP. Representative Tasks & Major Responsibilities Events Management (50%) · Lead planning and implementation of PSL one day tournaments. o Kickball for a Cause o Sand Volleyball o Additional tournaments to be developed · Plan, coordinate, and develop logistics for PUMP and PSL Events. o Play Solo Nights o Pickup Nights o PSL End of Year Party o Additional events as developed. · Lead PSL service projects in collaboration with the PUMP partners throughout the City of Pittsburgh. · Explore expansion through community endeavors. · Aid in developing new partnerships with other organizations. · Conduct events and tournaments as a way to raise money and/or awareness for PUMP and PSL. · Evaluate current tournaments and events on a yearly basis for purposes of improvement. PSL Officials Management (30%) · Organizing and maintaining a seasonal officials schedule for PSL sports. o Including but not limited to: flag football, kickball, soccer, softball, tennis clinic, and volleyball (indoor and sand). · Assigning weekly and seasonal games to officials per sport league. · Filling substitutes for scheduled officials as needed. · Coordinating equipment drop-off and pickup. · Creating and implementing recruitment and onboarding processes for new officials. · Coordinating sport specific trainings. · Identifying resources needed to improve communication processes. · Communicating rules, rosters, or other updates to officials as needed. · Conducting preseason meetings. · Communicating with PSL staff for streamlined understanding of who is officiating where. · Recording of official hours on a weekly basis for payroll. · Conducting seasonal umpire evaluations and reviews for assigned sports. Other Duties (20%) · Use social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and email marketing to promote leagues, events, and all other league and event news. · Available for on-call nights throughout the seasons. Monthly schedules created in advance. · Work with PSL staff on implementation on any new protocols, policies, systems, etc. · Stay up to date on all league rules and equipment requirements. · Research ways to improve leagues. General · Support PUMP staff with any PUMP events. · Be an ambassador for PUMP. · Other duties as assigned. Qualifications · Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, Events Management, or relevant field preferred. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills. · General sports knowledge and experience. · Ability to multitask. · Detail oriented. · Creative. · Ability to work both independently and in teams. · Ability to work in a fast paced, ever changing, and growing environment. · Proficient in Microsoft Office Products. Database and web application knowledge a plus. Requirements · Full-Time. Flexible schedule with some required evening and weekend hours. · League participation encouraged. · Valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle. · Frequent travel around Pittsburgh. Salary and Benefits This position is full-time with a pay range of $20-$22/hour. Benefits including health insurance, parking allowance, travel reimbursement, health and wellness allowance, retirement, and waived PSL fees.
