Test Engineer - Engineering Lab Manager
Overview
Tech(x) is an energized, mission-driven organization supporting the Department of Defense through advanced engineering, test, and integration services. We are seeking an experienced Test Engineer / Electronics Engineering Lab Manager to support secure communications, embedded systems, and advanced electronics development programs in a laboratory environment.
This position blends hands-on electronics and test engineering with lab operations, systems integration, and technical leadership, supporting government and contractor programs across RF, embedded Linux, unmanned systems, and mission-critical electronics.
Responsibilities
Lead test and product development efforts for complex electronic systems, including secure communications, embedded platforms, and military hardware
Design, execute, and document developmental, integration, and production test procedures for electronic assemblies, subassemblies, and systems
Perform system integration and troubleshooting across hardware, firmware, software, and networking interfaces
Develop and maintain test stations, white-box test equipment, and software development platforms
Author and review test plans, procedures, reports, and technical documentation in accordance with government and program requirements
Support embedded Linux environments, including SOMs, processors, FPGA/CPLD interfaces, and networking configurations
Interface with vendors and suppliers to define, evaluate, and modify electronic component and system specifications
Provide engineering lab management, including test equipment inventory, asset accountability, and lab configuration control
Support field testing, demonstrations, customer reviews, and on-site technical troubleshooting as required
Brief technical results and recommendations to government and non-technical stakeholders
Ensure compliance with military standards, quality processes, and security requirements
Perform additional engineering or lab support duties as assigned
Qualifications
Strong background in electronics engineering, test engineering, and system integration
Demonstrated experience with RF, secure communications, or military radio systems
Hands-on experience with embedded Linux systems, networking concepts, and processor-based designs
Proficiency in PCB design, integration, and troubleshooting, including rigid and flex boards
Experience developing test software and automation, including Python, LabVIEW, C/C++, or similar languages
Knowledge of FPGA/CPLD architectures, digital interfaces, and high-speed electronics
Ability to analyze test data, diagnose root causes, and implement corrective actions
Experience supporting unmanned systems, sensor systems, or autonomous platforms is a plus
Strong technical writing skills for procedures, reports, and configuration documentation
Proven ability to work independently and lead technical efforts in a lab or project environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with HMS, MUOS, SATCOM, SRW, IW, or similar DoD communication systems
Experience managing or supporting engineering labs or test facilities
Familiarity with military standards, EMI/EMC, ESD, and environmental testing
Prior military service or DoD civilian/contractor experience
Cryptologic Technician or similar technical training
Active TS/SCI clearance
Clearance:
Must have a current DOW secret level clearance.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline
7–12 years of relevant engineering or test experience supporting complex electronic systems
Advanced degrees may substitute for years of experience, and vice versa, in accordance with contract requirements A degree can be substituted for 4 years of direct related experience.
Location:
Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland.
Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Schedule flexing is available with the PM’s approval.
