Explore the full range of benefits and learn more about how Bluestem Communities can be the right fit for youvisit our Careers page today!Position Overview:The primary responsibility of the Cook is reading recipes; preparation and serving daily meals according to dietary needs; ensuring food temperature controls; maintaining proper food storage practices, marking and inventory of leftover food products; and cleaning and sanitizing of cooking utensils, food preparation areas, and food storage units.Essential Job Functions:Cooks food according to menus, recipes, and diet sheetsUnderstands and adheres to residents' nutritional needs as specified on their diet sheetsRemains alert to residents' changing dietary and health concernsConsults daily menus to determine which food will be cooked for the dayUses all kitchen equipment appropriatelyOrganizes food preparationEnsures that food is ready at the proper time and temperatureOrganizes food to be delivered to different areasFollows HACCP standards for preparing, handling, serving and storing foodChecks and records temperatures of food to ensure that it is served at correct temperaturesCools food according to the Serv Safe manualPrepares, cooks and stores food under appropriate temperatures and with safe food handling techniquesCooks food in a manner to conserve nutritive value, flavor, appearance and textureUses food and supplies appropriately to maintain budgetUnderstand and follows food portion controlsAvoids wasting food or suppliesServes and delivers foodServes residents in the dining area when time permitsMonitors all buffet area and refills it as necessaryPrepares foodCleans in assigned areasKeeps all kitchen equipment clean and in good working orderCleans and sanitizes food preparation areasHelps washes pots and pans and puts them away as time permitsEnsures that dietary aides clear and wipe down tables and sweep and mop floorEnsures all dietary aides have completed assigned job duties before end of shiftCompletes cleaning scheduleUses good sanitation practices as described in Serv Safe manualQualificationsQualifications and Experience:Must be at least eighteen (18) years of agePrefer ServSafe Food Handler certificate or willing to obtainPrefer one or more years of culinary training or equivalent cooking experienceMust be able to work a minimum of every other weekend and holidaysPhysical Requirements:Medium Work Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
