About The Role:
NuAxis Innovations is seeking a talented and motivated IT Web Developer III for a full-time position. In this role, you will develop accessible, production-ready Drupal front ends for the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) modernization efforts. Working on the PACE platform, you will turn design concepts into mobile-first digital experiences for workers, employers, and other stakeholders. Your work will support public-facing services such as the WHD External User Portal, Workers Owed Wages, Section 14(c), FLC Online, the Wage Determination portal, and the Online Complaint Intake portal. You will collaborate with user experience, engineering, and government teams to create interfaces that replace paper-heavy processes with clear, guided online journeys.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. A minimum of five years of front-end development experience, including at least three years building Drupal themes with Drupal 8, 9, or 10+, is required. You should bring expert knowledge of HTML5, CSS3/Sass, JavaScript ES6+, and Twig, along with hands-on experience using USWDS or a comparable design system. Experience theming Drupal Webform, Layout Builder, Paragraphs, and Views is expected. Qualified candidates have demonstrated experience building WCAG AA and Section 508-conformant interfaces and testing with screen readers. You will also need experience with Git, Composer, npm-based front-end build tools, CI/CD pipelines, Agile/Scrum, and Jira. Familiarity with AI-assisted programming tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, is required. This position requires U.S. person status and the ability to obtain and maintain a favorable NACI/HSPD-12 background investigation. Preferred qualifications include an Acquia or Drupal front-end certification, experience with the USWDS Drupal base theme, and work on federal public-facing websites or digital services. Experience with Drupal multilingual sites, React or Vue components, chatbot interfaces, DHS Trusted Tester certification, or containerized hosting with Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS is also valuable.
Responsibilities:
Build and maintain custom Drupal themes and sub-themes using Twig, Sass/CSS, and JavaScript, aligned with USWDS and DOL.gov design standards. Translate wireframes, prototypes, and style guides into reusable templates and components. Configure Drupal content structures, including Layout Builder, Paragraphs, Views, blocks, and menus, so routine updates can be managed through the administration interface. Develop Webform experiences with multi-step flows, conditional questions, inline validation, save-and-resume functionality, document uploads, and confirmation lookup. Implement interactive features, including the interface for an AI chatbot, and deliver responsive layouts across supported browsers and devices. Build accessibility into each experience through semantic markup, keyboard support, focus management, ARIA, and screen-reader compatibility; address identified accessibility issues. Support English and Spanish interfaces using Drupal translation capabilities and approved translations. Improve performance to meet a three-second page and form load standard through asset aggregation, image optimization, lazy loading, and cache-friendly markup. Implement analytics tagging without collecting personally identifiable information. Use approved AI coding tools as directed and review generated code before committing. Contribute to GitLab code reviews, front-end tests, sprint activities, and DevSecOps releases.
