Senior Software Engineer, Platform
About Vantage:Vantage is the FinOps platform built for modern engineering teams, trusted by thousands of organizations including Block, FanDuel, Vercel, Temporal, and CircleCI, to manage and optimize infrastructure costs across hyperscalers, cloud providers, and foundational models. We're passionate about building a cloud cost transparency platform that helps enable everyone, from developers to enterprises, analyze, report, collaborate on, and optimize their cloud spend. Together we are a high-output team of ~50 employees based in New York City with a remote-friendly culture.Backed by $25M from Andreessen Horowitz and Scale Venture Partners, and prominent industry veterans: Matthew Prince (Co-Founder, Cloudflare), Calvin French Owen (Co-Founder, Segment), Ben and Moisey Uretsky (Co-Founders, DigitalOcean), Stephanie and Nat Friedman (CEO, Github), Julia Lipton, Brianne Kimmel and others.About The Role:You'll join a small, high-performing platform team building the systems that power Vantage's core: data pipelines, workflow orchestration, and the infrastructure that keeps everything running reliably at scale. We move fast: 10-20 production releases a day, with a backlog that's always groomed and prioritized. We use Linear and AI tools (e.g. Claude, Codex, Cursor) as core tools, not novelties. Lightweight processes (ADRs, Slack huddles) allow us to be connected and co-ordinated without sacrificing quality. Your work will span new infrastructure, performance, scalability, and systems reliability - often in the same week. Very quickly after joining, you'll see your work reflected in how the platform performs for every customer who depends on it.We expect everyone to have a voice. If something's slowing us down or could be done better, you'll be expected to make a suggested improvement; iteration isn't just for code. What You Will Do:Design and build the core data infrastructure powering Vantage's platform - spanning ingestion pipelines, query engines, and backend services at scaleOwn architecture decisions for systems built on ClickHouse, Temporal, Kubernetes, and PostgresDrive reliability, performance, and scalability initiatives across the platform as data volume and customer load growsCollaborate closely with product and application teams to define platform contracts, APIs, and developer toolingWhat We're Looking For:5+ years of backend or platform engineering experience, with a track record of building systems that scaleStrong foundations in distributed systems, data pipelines, or workflow orchestration - experience with Temporal, ClickHouse, or similar tools is a plusComfortable contributing to infrastructure projects end-to-end: from schema design and query optimization to deployment and observability on KubernetesPreference for simple, durable designs - someone who knows when not to add complexityExperience defining platform boundaries and enabling other engineering teams to build on top of reliable foundationsSomeone who has led impactful projects and takes ownership seriouslyA kind personBonus Points:Monitoring and observability expertiseExperience building and deploying to cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)Relevant Data Visualization / financial product experienceOur Tech Stack:Ruby on Rails (7.x)TemporalServerless TypescriptLarge scale data pipelines and storageClickhouseTerraformCloudflareAll of the usual AWS servicesPay & BenefitsThe estimated annual US base salary range for this role is $175,000 - $210,000.
