Music Therapist (Independent Contractor)

The hourly rate for this position is $81.25 per session.Position Description: To provide music therapy for primary and secondary survivors of gun violence.Qualifications:Required: Experience in Music therapy, Music Education, or Expressive Arts TherapySchedule: 1-2 hours twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Thursday; 12:00 pm-2:00 pmKey Responsibilities Creative Expression Music Program Contractor* Facilitate Therapeutic Music SessionsPlan and lead structured music expression sessions (approximately one hour) for groups of 720 adult participants, incorporating music creation, listening, movement, spoken word, and music production activities.* Deliver Expressive ArtsBased InterventionsProvide expressive therapy that complements individual counseling and behavioral interventions for participants engaged in programming related to criminal thinking, anger management, substance use recovery, education, and employment readiness.* Promote Participant DevelopmentUse music-based activities to help participants:* Improve communication and expressive language* Develop non-verbal communication skills* Increase self-esteem and personal identity awareness* Strengthen interpersonal and social skills* Improve impulse control and emotional regulation* Expand attention span and ability to follow directions* Encourage positive affirmation and peer support.* Encourage Creative and Emotional ExpressionFacilitate opportunities for participants to express thoughts, feelings, and experiences through creative outlets such as singing, rhythm, songwriting, spoken word, and collaborative musical activities.* Provide Skill-Building in Music FundamentalsGuide participants in exploring rhythms, tones, vibrations, and musical elements while connecting these concepts to self-awareness and personal growth.* Adapt Programming to Participant NeedsConduct sessions responsive to the needs, abilities, and therapeutic goals of participants while maintaining a supportive and engaging learning environment.* Maintain Professional and Contractual ComplianceProvide proof of liability insurance and operate in accordance with the contractual agreement and applicable laws governing the partnership.Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
