Graphic Designer Prepress

PurposeThe Prepress Graphic Designer prepares digital artwork for production. The primary focus is on technical execution and "preflighting" files—ensuring colors, resolutions, bleeds, and formats are flawless to prevent expensive printing errors. This role bridges the gap between creative design and the physical print floor. This designer role will also be required to help mock up the packaging art on the physical retail packages to ensure look at fit of the details are correct.Primary DutiesReview customer-submitted files for missing fonts, low-resolution images, and sizing issues before they go to pressManage die lines and technical details for packaging best practices. Create physical or digital proofs for client approval before starting a full print runFollow internal development timeline to ensure tasks are done on time and completeProject manage creative work including packaging, mocks, and presentations for key selling seasons including Valentine’s Day, Easter, Summer, Halloween and Holiday, as well as everydayPoint person facilitating the flow of communication and design development among key internal and external parties including kick-off, rounds of revisions, customer and internal keyline approval, prepress set up, file release, and printer approvalWill also act as a Mock-up specialist--where this position will be responsible for putting the art on the physical retail packaging to ensure look and fit of the details are correct.Create and develop packaging solutions across various substrates and board weights with understanding of structural integrityWork collaboratively with key internal stakeholders, gathering ideas and presenting solutionsContribute to team effort as neededKnowledge & ExperienceRequirementsAdept at Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft OfficePrint Knowledge: Strong understanding of various printing processes (e.g., offset, digital, large-format, flexography) and finishing techniques (bindery, cutting, laminatingExcellent design skills with an eye for shape, color, print/pattern and typographyExperience with food packaging including application of food labeling regulationsAbility to provide design direction and apply it to functional and appealing packaged goods4+ years of experience preparing packaging for printStrong attention to detailOrganized, self-directed, team playerAbility to multi-task and meet deadlinesIn office collaborative environmentSocial and Environmental ResponsibilityMaud Borup embraces social and environmental responsibility and ongoingly puts policies and procedures in place to ensure care for our community, the environment, and for each other.
