Transit Operations Manager

Manages and problem solves the day-to-day support of transit operations for safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency. Works to coordinate services with other providers. Works with Director to prepare financial and statistical reports and obtain funding to sustain system support. This is a safety sensitive position and requires pre-employment and random Drug and Alcohol testing.Essential Functions And Responsibilities Participates in hiring process and orientation of new drivers and dispatchers. Manages day-to-day support of transit operation ensuring federal, state, and agency policies and Procedures are being followed. Prepares all statistical reports monthly and annually. Evaluates driver and dispatcher performance annually Reviews monthly expenditure reports for operations Handles customer complaints Performs unscheduled vehicle and driver on and off-site inspections Central point of contact for vehicle incidents and accidents and reporting to Director and Insurance ContactPerformance Management Decision making in Directors absence Annual number of Safety Trainings with Drivers and Dispatchers Number of times off site driver observations performed annually Timely delivery of monthly statistical reports to Director Timely reporting of State reports due such as NTD, grants, ect. Absenteeism Trainings attended relating to position Arrives to work on time Meets deadlines Willingness to work over if necessary to meet deadlinesKnowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesExperience: One to three years of similar or related experience.Education: (1) A college degree (non-technical discipline) or (2) multi-crafted skills acquired through extensive on-the-job training or apprenticeship programs or (3) in-depth industry and job specific technical skills acquired through a combination of formal instruction and on-the-job training.Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.Other Skills: This position requires the use of Microsoft Word and Excel. Supervisory experience. The ability to learn and operate scheduling software and take calls from customers to schedule trips into software. Experience using the internet to research federal and state requirements and transportation laws. Problem solving for vehicle, staff, and customer issues. Be able to work as a team member. One task of this position is to become certified as a Safety Officer knowledgeable in meeting Federal Transit Administration requirements.Physical Requirements: Requires eye-hand coordination, manual and mental dexterity, the ability to distinguish letters and symbols. Requires the use of office equipment such as computer, multi-line phone system, copier, fax machine, calculator, two-way radio/cell phone.
