Flat Welder
Job Summary
Working with supervision performs non-pressure boundary MIG welding of both galvanized and stainless steel materials for use in the construction of cooling towers and condensers.
Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent, is required
Qualify and pass the Evapco Non-Pressure Boundary Welding Test
Use, read, and comprehend a tape measure to within 1/32”, is required
Basic nomenclature and practical use of hand tools, is required
Reading and understanding Evapco production specifications, engineering drawings, and BOM’s, is required
Bilingual (English/Spanish), is preferred
Essential Functions
Safely set-up and operate assigned welding machine to weld various steel materials in the flat, horizontal, and vertical positions, in accordance with Evapco engineering drawings
Prepare stainless steel, galvanized, and black steel parts for welding
Produce full penetration, high quality/aesthetic weld joints and maintain dimensional compliance
Lay down proper tack welds
Perform proper post weld cleaning, as required or directed
Accurately perform plasma cutting
Read and comprehend various engineering and production documents, drawings, and instructions
Performs dimensional and visual inspection of parts, assemblies, and final product as directed by the team leader
May be transferred as needed to other departments to perform welding functions.
Participate in team and shop business problem solving activities that include quality, safety, scrap reduction, and process improvements
Attend related training courses as scheduled
Follow all related written and oral work instructions
Maintain Arc times keeping and goals as provided by the Performance Review program
May be required to perform field service repair work
May perform other duties as assigned
Typical Working Conditions
Industrial setting (i.e. factory, outdoor)
Temperature Extremes, in general, from 20° F. to 110° F.
Requires very good agility (i.e. bending, standing, walking, reaching, squatting, twisting, and lifting)
Shift work, day or nights, Monday through Friday, voluntary Saturday and Sunday’s
Equipment Used
Driving forklifts and operating hoists/overhead cranes
Weld power packs/machines
Various hand tools and measuring devices
Various jigs and fixtures
