The Neuropsychologist will work with other members of Semmes Murphey Clinic to provide patient services and is expected to participate in the appropriate team activities with the objective of providing a high standard of patient and clinical service. The Neuropsychologist's primary responsibility is to assess and diagnose patients presenting with a wide variety of neurologic, medical, and psychiatric conditions that impact intellectual, cognitive, and behavioral functioning. The neuropsychologist will also provide psychotherapy or other therapeutic interventions in order to provide the best inpatient and outpatient care for neurological patients.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Projects and performance of other responsibilities may be assigned.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and examinations of symptoms indicative of neurological disorders due to medical, neurological, psychological or genetic causesSelect, administer, score and interpret standardized tests utilizing paper and pencil, computer-based, and self-report methods to detect possible brain dysfunction or other etiologies affecting language, learning, organization, perception, coordination, personality, memory or thinking - conclusions may compliment findings from brain imaging studies, EEG, blood tests, and genetic testingProvide psychotherapy or implement other therapeutic interventions (rehabilitation, vocational counseling, behavior management or other services) or recommend referrals to other health care specialists for specific conditions, where appropriateCommunicate with patients or families of patients informing them of diagnoses and prognoses, as well as the benefits and risks of various treatment plansHospital duties to include consultation, treatment, therapeutic planning, and discharge planning for hospitalized patients Opportunities to design, conduct and/or participate in research studiesAssist with planning neurological services and maintain the highest standards of integrated patient care servicesInitiate, design, conduct, and report on research studies, data analysis and program evaluations, as appropriateAssist in the development of staff training, where neededTrain and Supervise interns and fellowsRequirementsEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CREDENTIALSMinimum RequirementsPhD or PsyD degree in psychology from an APA accredited graduate schoolCompletion of an APA accredited, one-year, pre-doctoral internship and an APA accredited, two-year, post-doctoral fellowship consistent with The Houston Conference guidelines for specialty training in neuropsychology ABPP-CN Board Certification in Neuropsychology within two (2) years of employmentMaintain licensure to practice psychology as a Health Service Provider in Tennessee (or other states, as necessary) Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to identify complex psychological problems, review related information to develop and evaluate options, and implement solutionsExcellent communication, both oral and written, with the ability to clearly give directions and ensure understanding in both positive and negative situationsEffective interpersonal skills, and can provide excellent customer service while managing difficult or emotional situationsProductive work ethic with willingness to be accessible to patients and staffEmotional strength and maturity, as well as passion, empathy and energyEthical nature with the intent to do what is right for patients, colleagues, the practice and society, keeping the best interests of others in mind; practice consistent with The APA Ethical Standards and Code of Conduct (2002)Highly proficient with electronic medical records (EMR)High level of confidentiality and discretionEqual Opportunity Employer/Veterans/Disabled
