Assistant Teacher, Baby Room, Stick Creek Kids Child Development Center
Position Description
The Assistant Teacher supports the teachers and the director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the teacher assistant observes and documents children’s interest and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. Teacher assistants are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the teacher and the director. Assistant teachers will maintain confidentiality of program participants and follow program and agency policies and procedures.
This position reports to – Stick Creek Kids Director and classroom lead teacher.
Key Responsibilities
Actively engage in activities with infants and children.
Meet basic needs of children in your care including diaper changes and bottles.
Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
Maintain daily communications with parents through informal discussions and progress reports.
Assist with observing & recording each child’s daily progress and utilize the data to provide materials, engagement & activities to encourage next steps.
Establish a positive and nurturing learning environment based on the unique needs of each child.
Build good, open communication with children, families, staff and community.
Help ensure a smooth, daily transition from home to child development center.
Follow all center policies and state regulations and participate in annual and ongoing training.
Maintain a personal, professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Early childhood care and development knowledge and experience
Good communication, problem solving, and priority setting skills as well as maintaining an overall positive and professional attitude /disposition.
Ability to effectively plan, organize and implement educational activities.
Ability to make decisions on behalf of children and protect their well-being.
Must be able to manage confidential information.
High energy
Ability to work well with others.
Must clear a full background check and must pass health screening.
Physical Requirements
Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl.
A specific vision ability will be required including the ability to see up close up to a certain distance, to see colors, have peripheral vision and depth perception.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40-pound child.
Experience and Qualifications
1 to 2-year experience working with children
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
Must pass fingerprints/background check in Nebraska
