Neighborhood recreation programs are offered at ten locations throughout the city. The Small Fry/Tiny Tot Program is conducted at six recreation centers throughout the city. Alameda's Aquatic Program, conducted at Emma Hood and Encinal Swim Centers, is open to children and adults. Alameda's Summer Day Camps are open to children who have completed Kindergarten through 5th Grades and are located at Hidden Cove (Robert Crown Memorial State Beach Park in Alameda) and Trails End and Trailblazers (Redwood Regional Park in Oakland).Summer Recreation positions are generally scheduled to work beginning of June through September.Dynamic, ethical, and enthusiastic individuals who share our values are encouraged to apply!MISSION: The mission of the Alameda Recreation and Park Department is to provide programs to the community with trained staff. Uniforms are provided. Staff must maintain facilities and help keep them neat and clean.WORK QUALITY: Staff are expected to perform quality work and to plan effectively and efficiently.FLEXIBILITY: Staff work hours vary due to Department needs (nights, weekends and holidays). Staff may be asked to perform work assignments outside their area of original employment.Examples of DutiesRECREATION LEADERRecreation Leaders plan, organize and conduct a variety of recreation programs for youth ages kindergarten through high school. Positions are available for summer and school-year programs for youth and teens. Activities include sports program, arts and crafts, cooking, dance, drama, city-wide special events and excursions. The Alameda Recreation and Park Department's goal is to provide programs which offer youth opportunities for the enrichment of the mind and body through the wholesome and creative use of leisure time. Hours may vary between 15 to 20 hours a week, depending on the position and responsibilities.Employment StandardsALL POSITIONS require current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR and a recent T.B. Test prior to the beginning of the program or agree to get both as a condition of being hired.In addition to the above requirements, each position requires the following:RECREATION LEADER: Must be 16 years or older. Employment is conditioned upon fingerprint results.Part-time positions with the City of Alameda may be eligible for limited benefits and are considered "at-will."
