Medical Assistant
Overview:
Maintaining a clean, healthy, and functioning facility is paramount to the success of the Humane Society for Greater Lafayette. As the Medical Assistant, you will be on the front lines in ensuring the facility and animals within it are properly cared for, properly medicated, and housed in conditions conducive to a healthy environment. The medical assistant will work in conjunction with the Medical Director and at the direction of the Executive Director and Director of Operations.
This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities. As the Medical Assistant, you will be expected to perform other reasonably related duties that may be assigned by supervisory staff.
Position Responsibilities:
The medical assistant will work at the pleasure of the executive director and director of operations in conjunction with the medical director.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist Medical Director
- Vaccinate animals within the facility
- Pass daily medications
- Microchipping animals
- Triage medical issues within the facility
- Assist in preparing animals for surgery
- Ensure proper precautions are being taken to promote a healthy and safe environment
- Perform animal intake protocol for animals entering the facility
- Oversee the medical needs of animals in foster care
- Schedule any needed surgeries outside of the facility
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, move, restrain, and manage animals weighing up to and over 100lbs
- Must be able to lift 50lbs
- Must be able to stand, walk, crouch, and bend for extended periods
- Must be able to use hands and arms working above shoulder level
Qualifications:
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays as assigned
- Experience in Vet Medicine/Shelter Medicine preferred
- High school education or equivalent
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate the ability to self-motivate
- Passionate about creating and maintaining high-quality care for the animals in the facility
- Animal handling experience preferred
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Be able to follow directions and establish standards of operations
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Starting hourly wage: $15.00/hour
