Call for Expressions of Interest: International Experts for Curriculum RenewalOrganization: UNESCO International Bureau of Education (IBE) Location: Middle EastJob DescriptionThe International Bureau of Education (IBE), based in Geneva, is UNESCO's specialized institute for curriculum-related matters. In addition to its global knowledge, research and dialogue functions, the IBE provides Member States with technical assistance and capacity strengthening in curriculum renewal processes aimed at improving the quality and relevance of learning outcomes.The IBE promotes a systemic approach to ensure coherence and alignment across national curriculum systems, including curriculum frameworks, teacher education, pedagogy, classroom practice, and learning assessment. This approach supports the integrated renewal of learning content in response to evolving societal needs.In response to increasing demand from Member States, the IBE is establishing a roster of international experts to contribute to ongoing and upcoming work across regions, with a particular focus on countries in the Middle East.AssignmentsSelected experts will be mobilized on a short- to medium-term basis to support IBE technical cooperation projects. Assignments may include:Curriculum framework review and revisionSupport the development or revision of national curriculum frameworksConduct international comparative analysesPrepare analytical reports with recommendations to strengthen coherence across curriculum componentsSubject curriculum review and enhancementReview and analyze subject curricula from an international comparative perspectiveSupport curriculum development in areas such as humanities, STEM, AI, media education, and environmental educationStrengthen learning progression, sequencing, and coherence across education levelsDevelop training resources and deliver capacity development activitiesTeacher education programme alignmentReview pre-service and in-service teacher education programmesProvide recommendations to align teacher education with curriculum and pedagogyStrengthen teacher competencies in curriculum implementation and assessmentDevelop and deliver training activitiesLearning assessmentReview national assessment frameworks, tools, and practicesProvide recommendations for alignment with curriculum expectationsStrengthen capacity to analyze and use learning dataContribute to the revision of assessment strategies and toolsCurriculum evaluation developmentReview existing evaluation mechanisms and practicesSupport the development or strengthening of curriculum evaluation frameworksEnsure alignment with assessment and broader system monitoringPromote the use of data for continuous improvementCapacity development and mentoringDesign and deliver training activities for national teamsProvide mentoring and technical supportDevelop training resources and modules for sustained capacity developmentExpected DeliverablesDepending on the assignment, experts may be expected to deliver:Analytical reports and comparative studiesTechnical inputs to curriculum, assessment, and evaluation frameworksTraining materials and capacity development resourcesFacilitation of workshops and technical sessionsMentoring outputs and structured feedbackFinal synthesis reports with key findings and recommendationsRequired Qualifications and ExperienceEducation:Advanced university degree (PhD or Master's) in education or a related fieldWork experience:Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experienceExperience in curriculum development, teacher education, or learning assessmentExperience in competency-based or standards-based approachesDemonstrated experience in:Producing curriculum-related outputs (frameworks, tools, training programmes)Conducting international comparative analysis and benchmarkingTraining and mentoring national education teamsWorking with Ministries of Education or related institutionsStrong familiarity with high-performing education systems and international assessment contexts is required. Experience in the Global South and with international organizations is an asset.Skills and CompetenciesStrong analytical and writing skillsAbility to work in multicultural and interdisciplinary teamsExperience in facilitating workshops and capacity developmentAbility to translate international practices into national contextsStrong focus on implementation and resultsLanguagesFluency in English is requiredKnowledge of Arabic is an assetDuration and conditionsThe contract duration is 6 months, with activities expected in 2026. Engagements will be short- to medium-term, with flexible modalities including remote work, in-person missions, and online mentoring.Fees will be determined based on the scope of work, in accordance with UNESCO standards.
