This job is a civilian position and does not require military service (including commission and enlistment)
Grade Eligibility: DB-03 (GS-12 to GS-13 Equivalent)
Who May Apply: MUST be a US Citizen.
Time Limitation: Flexible Length Renewable Modified Term NTE 6 years (could be made perm without further competition)
Location: Detroit Arsenal located in Warren, MI.
About the Position
VEA’s mission is to design, integrate and deliver vehicle electronics systems by leveraging advanced technologies to provide enhanced capabilities for military ground vehicles. VEA has five primary mission areas: Vehicle Electrical Power, Vehicle Data and Networking, Vehicle Embedded Systems & Software, Electronics Integration, and Project Management & Processes. The candidates should be proactive, appreciate working independently and collaborating with other areas across VEA, GVSC and local senior leadership. Successful job performance requires the ability to gain cooperation from multiple teams, effectively communicate technical and programmatic information to multiple levels of leadership, identify potential issues, suggest solution sets in a constructive manner, listen to alternative solutions, and work across multiple organizations within and outside of GVSC. We are looking for talented and motivated individuals with skills in these areas that can help us achieve our mission.
Duties:
Serves as a senior-level computer engineer, electrical engineer, or computer scientist within GVSC Vehicle Electronics and Architecture (VEA). Is responsible for assuring S&T and customer funded projects are managed and executed at the highest level of professionalism and perform-to-promise. The position requires an understanding of embedded, industrial, and general purpose computing hardware platforms that host VEA software. The candidate researches, develops, tests, and integrates software onto virtual environments, crew station processors, embedded computing devices, full system benches, or military vehicles. The ideal candidate should be proficient developing software, and ideally be familiar with many of the following practices: DevOps, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), Agile methodologies, modular design, thread-safe applications, embedded system design, application programming interface (API) design, and interfacing with vehicle level protocols (i.e. VICTORY, CAN, 1553, IP networking, etc). The position maintains close working relationships with project stakeholders including other VEA tech branches to resolve problems, understand requirements, and exchange information on in-house VEA projects or those supported by VEA; follow process guidelines in accordance with VEA best practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Strong technical and interpersonal skills
- Strong emotional intelligence skills
- Proficient in software coding and design principles
- Ability to apply best software architectural methodologies.
- Proficient in relevant software languages including C/C++/Java/Python
- Problem solving skills with emphasis on software bug troubleshooting, optimizing applications, building and validating to specification.
- Strong unit, component, and application level testing skills.
- Proficient in Linux or Unix-like Operating Systems.
- FPGA design skillsets is preferred.
- Ability to develop and apply engineering processes and specifically, the VEA Standard Set of Organizational Processes
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
- Excellent communication (oral & written) skills
- Strong resource management expertise
- Collaboration and teamwork centered

- Must have Engineering Degree.
- Occasional Travel (up to 20%) may be required.
