OverviewThe Dermatology Department at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is seeking a Mohs Technician at any level (I, II, or III) to support Mohs micrographic surgery within our laboratory. Whether you are beginning your laboratory career or bringing advanced histotechnology experience, we welcome candidates across all levels. The basic responsibilities and minimum qualifications for each level are outlined in the overview section below.This role supports precise tissue preparation and frozen section analysis to ensure accurate surgical margin assessment and high-quality patient care.This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week day shift position, working Monday through Friday; no weekends or holidays required.Mohs Technician I - Entry LevelPay Range: $21.72 - $33.67/hrIdeal for candidates beginning their laboratory career.What You'll Do:Receive, label, and prepare tissue specimensAssist with embedding, sectioning, staining, and coverslippingMaintain documentation and specimen trackingEnsure a clean, safe, and organized lab environmentFollow infection prevention and laboratory protocolsMinimum Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent (required)Laboratory or healthcare experience (preferred)Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructionsDependability and willingness to learnMohs Technician II - Intermediate LevelPay Range: $24.58 - $38.10/hrFor technicians with hands-on cryostat and frozen section experience.What You'll Do:Orient and embed tissue for frozen sectioningPerform cryostat sectioning and routine staining independentlyConduct quality control checks and maintain documentationAssist with training and mentoring entry-level staffEnsure compliance with safety and laboratory policiesMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor's of Science Degree or Medical Technology + 1 year of experienceOR an Associate's degree in Science or Medical Technology + 3 years of experienceOR 4-5 years relevant laboratory experienceProficiency in cryostat operation and frozen tissue processingStrong organizational and documentation skillsCertification (ASCP, ASMH, or equivalent) preferredMohs Technician III - Advanced/Senior LevelPay Range: $26.47 - $41.03/hrFor experienced technicians with advanced technical and leadership skills.What You'll Do:Perform advanced tissue embedding, sectioning, and troubleshootingEnsure precise tissue orientation for surgical margin assessmentOversee lab workflow, quality control, and equipment calibrationAnalyze results and ensure accurate reportingTrain and mentor Mohs I and II techniciansMaintain accreditation and regulatory complianceWhat You Bring:Bachelor's of Science Degree or Medical Technology + a minimum of 3 years of relevant laboratory experienceOR an Associate's degree + a minimum of 5 years of experienceOR 9 years of relevant laboratory experienceRequired certification (ASCP, ASMH, advanced training course, or equivalent)Advanced cryostat and staining proficiencyLeadership, mentoring, and quality assurance experienceResponsibilitiesPerforms advanced tissue embedding, cryostat sectioning, staining, and troubleshooting. Ensures accurate tissue orientation for margin assessment during Mohs procedures. Oversees laboratory workflow, quality control, and equipment calibration. Analyzes diagnostic test results and ensures accurate reporting. Trains and guides Mohs Technician I and II staff in advanced methods. Develops, updates, and enforces laboratory policies and procedures. Maintains compliance with hospital, state, and accreditation standards. Performs other duties as required or assigned.QualificationsBachelor of Science Degree or Medical Technology and minimum of three (3) years of relevant laboratory experience OR Associates Degree and minimum of five (5) years of relevant laboratory experience OR nine (9) years of relevant laboratory experienceCompletion of Mohs Technician III technical competency.Certification required at hire:ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology), orASMH (American Society for Mohs Histotechnology), orCompletion of Mohs Technician Advanced Training Course, orEquivalent credential approved by the Laboratory Director.Advanced proficiency in cryostat sectioning and staining techniques.Strong leadership and mentoring skills.Knowledge of laboratory accreditation standards and quality systems.Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex laboratory issues.Excellent organizational and communication skills to manage workflow and support clinical teams.Required Licensure/Certifications* None
