Description
A Senior Process Engineer will have demonstrated work and leadership characteristics required to achieve success in a chemical manufacturing environment. The position will lead and support capital projects including strategic objectives in process safety, innovation, optimization, and technical support while providing production support to ensure continuous operation of all plant equipment.
Role Specific Responsibilities
Monitors routine operations of chemical processing units through the use of statistical process control techniques to assure compliance with established operating procedures, and customer requirements
Observes plant areas for opportunities and improvements through technical, analytical tools and prepare technical reports including recommendations for modifications
Acts as plant support of process safety management program including HAZ-OPS, Management of Change (MOC), etc.
Takes an active role in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of solutions
Supports/Leads PHAs for new product introductions and existing product revalidations assessments
Assists R&D in the development and scale-up of new products
Identifies/develops project scope and plans to support strategic objectives
Leads projects such as capital and continuous improvement for new or existing products and collaborates with vendors, ensures all project deliverables, budgets, and timelines are achieved while reducing cost, increase capacity, improve safety and quality
Leads projects focused on new product introductions or technology transfers
Specifies new and existing process equipment, safety devices, and utilities for new capacities or services
Applies structured problem solving to optimize and continuously improve equipment utilization, waste generation, production yields, labor, and other cost reductions (i.e., Lean 6-Sigma DMAIC, DOE, etc.)
Ensures sustainment through review and development of and training on SOPs
Collects, analyzes, and reports data related to production capabilities and plant operations
Maintains PSM required documentation including mass and energy balance, Process, and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
Completes other project work as necessary to support safe operations

Education and Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering
Experience with Distributed Control Systems, Honeywell preferred
LEAN Six-Sigma Green Belt preferred
Experience
10+ years of experience in chemical process engineering and process design
Significant chemical manufacturing experience required
Experience managing complex and time-sensitive projects
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Fundamental knowledge of continuous and batch chemical operations including reaction, distillation, heat exchange, solids handling, utilities, and process control.
Experience in heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis.
Experience scaling up lab data and/or pilot plant data into successful commercial processes.
Familiarity with Six Sigma Processes
Exceptional organizational and time management skills with attention to detail and the ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs and priorities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to flex own style as needed to influence and drive results
Self-motivated and ability to work within a fast-paced environment
Critical thinking skills and analytical abilities which allow assessments of situations and opportunities
Flexibility to work in both office and operating plant environments on a wide variety of activities
Demonstrated knowledge in methodologies and tools including PHA/HAZOP, risk ranking, LOPA, Relief System Design, root cause analysis, mechanical integrity, management of change, pre-startup safety review, and additional process safety management requirements and methods
