Position SummaryJob Title: Financial ControllerLocation: Minneapolis/St. Paul, MNJob Type: Full-time Job OverviewThe Financial Controller will oversee general accounting, tax compliance, payroll, internal controls, and financial reporting. This individual will implement efficient processes, manage key financial systems, and build a high-performing accounting team. The role includes cross-functional collaboration to support operational and strategic initiatives and ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting ManagementLead the monthly financial-close process ensuring accurate recording of all transactions.Maintain documented systems of accounting policies and procedures.Oversee outsourced accounting-related services (e.g., Sovos and others).Ensure timely and accurate bank reconciliations.Maintain the chart of accounts and manage accounting structure in Great Plains or other financial ERP.Develop and enforce controls over accounting transactions and key assets (AR, inventory, fixed assets, cash).Oversee payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.Build and manage processes for domestic and international tax compliance (e.g., sales tax, VAT/GST/HST).Financial ReportingPrepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements.Maintain effective internal controls and recommend improvements.Coordinate with external CPA firm for annual compilation services.Manage financial reporting tools and systems, including Report Manager and PowerBIDevelop advanced financial reporting capabilities to provide deeper business insights.Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPI’s) to promote company growth and profitability. Prepare cash flow projections and continuously monitor cash flow to ensure financial stability. ComplianceMaintain processes to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and global tax requirements.Support compilation, tax filings, and other compliance activities.Monitor accounting control procedures and ensure policy adherence.Capital EffectivenessIdentify opportunities to improve productivity and reduce costs.Contribute to financial planning and analysis through cost analysis and insight.Project ManagementSupport and/or lead financial system implementations and improvements, i.e. new ERPEnsure initiatives align with internal controls and business objectives.Talent DevelopmentRecruit, develop, and retain high-performing, diverse team members.Provide training, mentorship, and career development opportunities.Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning. What You’ll Bring:Experience & Education· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.· CPA designation preferred.· 2–3 years of public accounting experience preferred.· Minimum of 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience.· International tax exposure preferred.Technical Expertise· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.· Experience with accounting systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics GP/Great Plains).· Familiarity with financial reporting tools (e.g., Report Manager, BI tools).· Understanding of U.S. GAAP and global tax compliance standards.· Comfort with cloud-based collaboration and financial platforms.Key Competencies· Analytical Thinking – Interprets complex data and drives insight-based decisions.· Leadership & Team Management – Engages and develops talent aligned with company goals.· Project Management – Leads cross-functional initiatives with discipline and clarity.· Problem Solving & Strategic Thinking – Identifies root causes and proposes scalable solutions.· Planning & Organization – Sets priorities, organizes workflows, and meets deadlines.· Communication & Collaboration – Builds trust and strong relationships across the organization.Qualifications:· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.· CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CMA (Certified Management Accountant), or similar financial certifications, preferred. · 2-3 years of public accounting experience preferred. · Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience. · International tax exposure preferred.
