Environmental Health Safety Specialist (Statesboro)

POSITION SUMMARYProvide Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), technical and administrative support for and on behalf of the Statesboro Plant. Responsible for supporting the Plant Manager or designee in the provision of a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. To achieve continuous improvement in EHS and achieve a high level of EHS awareness by ensuring that risks in the workplace are properly controlled and that impacts on the environment are minimized.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS• Promote and drive the EHS mind-set and culture at the Statesboro Plant as the Occupational Health & Safety Specialist.• Monitor and maintain compliance to all applicable EBOS, Federal, state, local and other related EHS requirements• Specialist will monitor and maintain plant OSHA or equivalent as per county record keeping• Monitor status of plant active/open Workmen's Compensation claims and associated costs• Prepare, maintain, and report on Monthly EHS and Energy Consumption KPI's per requirements• Assist in incident investigations, injuries, and environmental incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions activities as the EHS Specialist• EHS Specialist will participate and support of line-side EHS QPS activities and record keeping• Assist and participate in the EHS Early Alert 8D process; Monitor status to maintain completion within assigned due dates• EHS representative participation in all industrialization, Transfer, and New Program Development related projects and activities• Coordinate, schedule and/or administer EHS training needs per the EHS Training calendar and maintain EHS training records• Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, inspections and compliance documentation• Plan and steward Monthly EHS Committee meetings; maintain meeting records• Prepare and deliver EHS related employee notifications and communications as needed• Monitor First Aid Logs and associated reporting and recordkeeping• Lead and participate in Weekly Plant EHS walks with the plant Management Team• Monitor and maintain the plant EHS Correction Action Report (EHS CAR); drive completion of EHS CAR activities within assigned due dates• EHS representative and participant in all Industrialization, Transfer, and New Program Development related projects and activities.• Coordinate, schedule and/or administer EHS training needs per the EHS Training Calendar and maintain EHS training records.• Review and authorize all incoming Hazardous Materials; Maintenance of SDS indices and books.• EHS Specialist reviews and authorizes all incoming Hazardous Materials per the Hazardous Materials Authorization Procedure (AME-P-3336); Maintenance of SDS indices and books• Review and authorize all Hazardous Energy Control (LOTO) task specific procedures for plant equipment and machinery.• Provide EHS review and approval of all plant related CAPEX expenditures• May be responsible for the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and general waste.• Responsible for purchasing and inventory management of EHS-related supplies and materials (PPE)• Perform and document task and equipment specific hazard and risk assessments as necessary and required.• Coordination and maintenance of all Plant Emergency Response procedures, evacuation plans, applicable employee training, and performance of routine drills.• Participates in Monthly EHS Conference Calls• In general, participates as Plant stakeholder and EHS representative in all Plant programs, projects, and activities.• Participation and coordination of plant EHS activities as determined by and necessary for the continued maintenance of the ISO 14001:2004 certification.• Assists, coordinates and participates in activities and projects and continued maintenance EHS programs, policies, and initiatives that will improve EHS awareness and performance.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE• College or university degree in Safety or EHS or related technical discipline.• 3- 5 years' experience in Safety, Health and Environmental, preferred• BA in Safety, Health and/or Environmental, Industrial Engineering, or closely related field.• Prior manufacturing experience preferred.COMPETENCIES• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work in a team environment.• Ability to respond quickly to changing priorities• Valid Driver's license• Safety and environmental certification preferred• Ability to provide reports required by State/Fed Government and company management• Ability to handle general administrative systems tasks, including purchase request processing• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL REQUIREMENTS• Lifting up to 20 lbs.• Standing up to 5 hours per day.• Standing up to 8 hours per day.• Walking up to 3 hours per day• Frequent bending, reaching with arms forward/above the shoulders.• Pushing / Pulling up to 20 lbs. 1 hours per day.• Ability to stay focused for extended periods of time.• Ability to multitask.• Ability to analyze information, identify problems.WORK ENVIRONMENT• Plant work environment with seasonal fluctuations in temperature (hotter in the summer, cooler in the winter)• Exposure to noise and bright lights.• Required to wear personal protective equipment such as steel toe shoes, glasses, gloves, etc.TRAVELTravel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.OTHER DUTIESPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
