Senior Database Engineer in MariaDB and PostgreSQL architecture

Job Title: Open Source DBA – Senior Database EngineerLocation: RemoteEmployment Type: FTERole OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Database Engineer with deep hands-on experience in MariaDB and PostgreSQL architecture. This role focuses on designing, deploying, and troubleshooting databases in bare-metal and on-premise environments, with strong ownership of database reliability, performance, and recovery.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and maintain MariaDB and PostgreSQL databases in bare-metal and on-premise environments.Own database architecture, including replication, clustering, failover, and recovery.Analyze potential database failure scenarios and develop mitigation strategies.Troubleshoot performance issues, corruption, and replication delays.Manage schema design, indexing, and query optimization.Partner with application and infrastructure teams to ensure scalability and fault tolerance.Develop and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and monitoring solutions.Automate database deployment, upgrades, and patching using scripts and configuration tools.Requirements7+ years of hands-on experience with MariaDB and PostgreSQL.Strong experience in on-premise/bare-metal database environments.Deep understanding of database internals, replication, WAL/redo logs, and recovery.Strong troubleshooting skills, especially during complex failure scenarios.Proven experience implementing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR).Strong performance tuning and query optimization skills.Experience with storage engine management.Strong Linux systems administration experience.Experience with Ansible, Terraform, Bash, or Python for automation.
