Vice President of Mission Critical Construction
Summary JOB DESCRIPTION Ajax Building Company, a member of STO Building Group, is seeking a Vice President of Mission Critical Construction to lead and expand our Mission Critical sector across the Southeast (Georgia/Carolinas preferred).This executive leader will be responsible for driving growth, developing strategic client relationships, and overseeing the successful delivery of complex mission critical projects—primarily within the data center market. The VP will partner closely with Business Development and Operations leadership to secure new work, build high-performing teams, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, at the highest quality, and with strong financial performance.This role is instrumental in shaping the long-term strategy of the Mission Critical business while mentoring and developing the next generation of leaders within the organization.Essential FunctionsLead the strategic growth and operational execution of the Mission Critical sector, with a strong emphasis on data center constructionDevelop and execute business plans, including revenue targets, client development strategies, and market expansion initiativesPartner with Business Development to identify, pursue, and secure new opportunities; actively participate in pursuits, presentations, and client engagementBuild and maintain strong relationships with key clients, developers, and industry partners to drive repeat businessProvide executive oversight of multiple large-scale projects, ensuring alignment with schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectivesEstablish and monitor financial performance across the division, including project budgets, forecasts, and profitability metricsLead, mentor, and develop project executives, project managers, and field leadership; foster a high-performance, accountability-driven cultureCollaborate with Regional Leadership to align sector goals with broader company strategy and operational prioritiesEnsure effective coordination between operations, preconstruction, and commissioning teamsOversee commissioning strategies and execution, ensuring seamless turnover and operational readiness for mission critical facilitiesMonitor project risk and proactively address issues that may impact schedule, cost, or client satisfactionContribute to company-wide initiatives, policies, and continuous improvement effortsRepresent Ajax in industry forums, client meetings, and leadership discussions to enhance market presence and brand reputationRequirementsBachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field20+ years of construction experience, with significant leadership experience overseeing multiple large-scale projects or programs10+ years of direct Mission Critical / data center experience, including commissioning, start-up, and operationsProven track record of successfully delivering complex, high-value mission critical projectsStrong business acumen with experience managing P&L, budgets, and financial performanceDemonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams across multiple locationsDeep understanding of MEP systems, commissioning processes, and critical systems infrastructureExperience with commissioning platforms (e.g., CxAlloy, Nexus) is a plusStrong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skillsAbility to operate at both strategic and tactical levels in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environmentAbout AjaxFounded in 1958, Ajax Building Company is a leading commercial contractor delivering complex, high-impact projects across the Southeast.
