Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Technologist

GENERALA. Should assume responsibility for the safe and effective operation andmaintenance of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related systems and ancillarycomponents.B. Must work closely with the Safety Coordinator, facility managementpersonnel, and medical personnel.C. Reports to the Physician in-charge.D. Performs duties under the indirect supervision of the Safety Coordinator.E. Is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chamber(s)and related support systems.F. Supervises each HBO treatment or ensures that treatments are supervisedonly by qualified staff that has been trained in hyperbaric medicine.G. Provides all patient education and patient care in the HBO Unit.2. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCEA. Certified Hyperbaric Technologist – PreferredB. Allied Health professional – Required3. JOB RESPONSIBILITIESA. Assists in patient preparation for treatment.B. Performs patient assessments in coordination with the Nurse Practitioner orPhysician.C. Keeps complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to treatmentdocumentation.D. Performs duties and procedures as directed by the Safety Coordinator andthe Physician.2E. Performs hyperbaric chamber operations and system maintenance asrequired.F. Maintains competencies, continuing education, and certifications asappropriate.G. Ensures department compliance with NFPA 99, Hyperbaric Facilities, andwith unit safety policies and procedures.H. Ensures department compliance with JCAHO, Department of Health, andUHMS accreditation standards.I. Ensures that all facility bills are properly coded and submitted and that eachtreatment is tracked and reported to the Physician or Nurse Practitioner.J. Ensures that Physicians sign all required documents.K. Fosters a positive relationship between the department and the local FireMarshall, Emergency Medical Services Director, and Pressure VesselInspector, as appropriate.L. Evaluates hyperbaric chamber equipment/supplies used in the chamber andensures that they meet all safety requirements before they are permittedinside the chamber.M. Maintains a safe environment in the hyperbaric facility for patients and staffand uses approved and recognized monoplace treatment protocols.N. Informs personnel of any special work conditions such as infection control,hazard control, and confined spaces.4. ABOUT USA.
