The primary purpose of this role is to provide professional mosquito surveillance and control services for Franklin County residents. We deliver service with courtesy, safety, and dependability. Here at VDCI, we have a strong focus on preventing the spread of diseases through mosquito control.Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To The FollowingRoutinely inspect mosquito breeding habitats for larval presence and search for new potential breeding habitatsAssess each inspection site and utilize the appropriate control techniques, such as: no action, source reduction, public education, and appropriate larvicide (primarily bacterial-based products)Place and retrieve monitoring devices for surveilling mosquito populationsMay morphologically identify and count mosquito species using dissecting microscopesRespond to mosquito complaints from concerned residents by inspecting properties, treating mosquito habitats, and communicating directly with residentsAccurately record all findings and control activities on provided mobile tablets into VDCI’s database as required by the contractBe thoroughly familiar with all applicable chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and handle/apply all chemicals according to label specificationsKnow and follow proper safety and spill procedures at all times, and use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regularlyCommunicate respectfully, honestly, and knowledgeably to residents at all times during service request inspections, routine larvicide activities, or during any other public relations activitiesKnow and follow the proper and safe operations of all equipment usedReact to change promptly and effectively, and handle other essential tasks as assignedSolid reading, writing, and verbal communication skills and the ability to present information in both internal and external settings.Essential Job FunctionsComfortable with self-directed working conditions after a training periodWork is regularly performed outdoors and may include exposure to potentially hazardous situations and substances such as weather conditions, challenging and uneven/unstable terrain, pesticides, dust and airborne particulates, excessive noise, biting insects, hazardous plants, and wild and domestic animalsMust be capable of lifting and using items such as chemical containers and application equipment weighing up to 50 poundsSafely operate a motor vehicle and make sure it and all other equipment is kept cleanWhat do you need? Demonstrated attention to detailDemonstrated verbal and written communication skills Open to learning and becoming knowledgeable in the areas of pest control and public healthHigh school diploma or GED; related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experiencePossess a valid driver’s license from state of residenceBasic math skills — add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. You’ll need to be able to follow instructions for mixing on product labelsCustomer-facing experience preferred#RTX100Base Pay RangeHourly: $16.50 - $25.00While starting pay falls within the given range, it can vary based on factors like geographic location, skills, education, and experience.
