Design Engineer

This role is responsible for creating detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation using CAD software, while ensuring designs meet quality, manufacturability, and safety standards. The Design Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Production, Procurement, and Quality, to bring designs from concept through production.Experience:Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in a manufacturing environmentProficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and familiarity with PDM/PLM systemsHands-on experience with product development, prototyping, and engineering change processesKnowledge:Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials selection, and manufacturing processes (fabrication, machining, assembly)Familiarity with engineering standards, tolerances, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)Knowledge of product lifecycle management and documentation control processesSkills:Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modeling softwareSkilled in creating accurate engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentationCapable of analyzing designs for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and performanceInterpersonal:Strong communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams and external suppliersAbility to manage multiple design projects under tight deadlinesProactive, adaptable, and solution-oriented approach to problem-solvingKey Competencies:Highly detail-focused with a commitment to accuracy and quality in design workCreative mindset with the ability to develop innovative solutions to technical challengesStrong organizational skills and ability to manage complex projects from concept to completionGeneral ResponsibilitiesThe Design Engineer is responsible for developing product designs, engineering documentation, and technical solutions that meet customer requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and company standards. This includes creating and maintaining CAD models and drawings, supporting engineering change processes, collaborating with other departments to resolve design issues, and contributing to product innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.Essential DutiesDevelop detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and BOMs for new and existing productsCollaborate with Engineering, Production, Procurement, and Quality to ensure design feasibility and manufacturabilityApply GD&T and appropriate tolerances to all designs in compliance with industry standardsParticipate in product development from concept through production releaseReview and process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)Conduct design reviews and provide technical input to improve performance, reliability, and cost-effectivenessSupport prototype builds and testing to validate designs against specifications and requirementsMaintain accurate and organized design files in PDM/PLM systemsProvide technical support to manufacturing teams during product launch and productionGeneral DutiesParticipate with Engineering leadership in setting departmental design and development goalsAbide by organizational policies and contribute to a respectful, compliant workplaceSupport internal policies for risk management, safety, and regulatory complianceEquipment/MachinesPC, CAD software (SolidWorks), PDM/PLM systems, standard office equipment
