The major focus for this position is on preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment. This individual assists the surgeon during surgical procedures. They administer care and use of equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served, from neonate through geriatric. The Surgical Technician must be knowledgeable of specific procedures or specialties. They must effectively prioritize and plan due to the changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures. This individual must have the ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations. Additionally, the Surgical Technician must have basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique. They should apply this knowledge in all patient and family interactions. They must display aseptic technique in the performance of surgical duties to ensure positive patient outcomes. They demonstrate responsibility for the care, preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instrumentation. They consistently perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure. They must demonstrate knowledge and adherence to professional standards of practice.
