Special Education Attorney

Roles & Responsibilities:Advocate for clients within the special education system to ensure they receive all services mandated under federal and state lawRepresent families in administrative hearings, mediations, and due process proceedingsConduct legal research and prepare motions, briefs, complaints, and settlement agreementsReview, analyze, and advise on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and related documentationCollaborate with educators, therapists, evaluators, and other professionals to support comprehensive student service plansMaintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with all procedural timelines and legal requirementsStay current on federal and New York State special education laws, regulations, and best practicesBuild and maintain strong relationships with clients, families, and community stakeholders Requirements:Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law schoolActive admission to practice law in New YorkDemonstrated experience in special education law and student advocacyStrong legal writing, research, and courtroom advocacy skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal abilitiesExceptional analytical skills and strong attention to detailCommitment to protecting the educational rights of students with disabilities Preferred Qualifications:Prior experience in nonprofit, legal aid, or education-focused legal environmentsExperience handling due process hearings independently Benefits:Generous PTO packageWarm and supportive work environmentOpportunity to grow within the company
