Job descriptionWhat You Will Do• Performs duties related to the safe operation of diesel and electric drills at a highly skilled level.• Responsible for:• Drilling quality primary and secondary blast holes, drilling to proper depth, and proper collaring of drill holes• Identifying and reporting any mechanical issues on the drill and recognizing when bits are wearing and require replacement along with maximizing bit/string life• Recognizing hazards associated with drilling next to banks and high walls• Drilling angle holes and drilling in native ground• Safely moves and positions power cables when operating drill around shovels• May be required to:• Chane drill steels, change bits and stabilizers and assist maintenance personnel with pipe changes• Operate manual or automated drills• Manually measure drill holes after drilling for quality control• Operate other pieces of mobile equipment as necessary for business needs• Responsible for the knowledge and safe performance of the following procedures: drilling in fill, using drill fire suppression system, loading drill on low-boy, breaking drill pipe, lowering and raising the mast, mounting and dismounting of drill, and drilling near overhead power lines• Responsible for knowing and performing proper tramming techniques, such as, properly and safely move from one drill hole to the next, properly and safely move from one bench to the next, properly and safely navigate on uneven grades, and properly securing the drill string• Frequently communicates and interacts with blasting crew to properly clear drill for blasting• Performs other duties as requiredQualificationsKnowledge of the proper pattern approach and proper sequence of drill patternsKnowledge of blasting operations procedures preferredAbility to safely and properly lift heavy and unstable objects, such as drill bits and stabilizersMust have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitudeThe selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where requiredThis exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safetyResponsibilitiesPerforms duties related to the safe operation of diesel and electric drills at a highly skilled levelResponsible for:Drilling quality primary and secondary blast holes, drilling to proper depth, and proper collaring of drill holesIdentifying and reporting any mechanical issues on the drill and recognizing when bits are wearing and require replacement along with maximizing bit/string lifeRecognizing hazards associated with drilling next to banks and high wallsDrilling angle holes and drilling in native groundSafely moves and positions power cables when operating drill around shovelsMay be required to:Change drill steels, change bits and stabilizers and assist maintenance personnel with pipe changesOperate manual or automated drillsManually measure drill holes after drilling for quality controlOperate other pieces of mobile equipment as necessary for business needsResponsible for the knowledge and safe performance of the following procedures: drilling in fill, using drill fire suppression system, loading drill on low-boy, breaking drill pipe, lowering and raising the mast, mounting and dismounting of drill, and drilling near overhead power linesResponsible for knowing and performing proper tramming techniques, such as, properly and safely move from one drill hole to the next, properly and safely move from one bench to the next, properly and safely navigate on uneven grades, and properly securing the drill stringFrequently communicates and interacts with blasting crew to properly clear drill for blastingPerforms other duties as requiredRequired Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GEDFour (4) years of drill operating experienceSafety Equipment RequiredSteel toe shoesEnvironmental, Health & SafetyThe job requires training or instruction in the area of environmental Awareness.This job requires training or instruction in the area of Safety & Health awareness including completion of the appropriate OSHA and/or MSHA training.A core value of ASARCO LLC is "Safety First."
