Job Title: Medical Technician-PhlebotomySpecialty: Phlebotomy / Clinical Laboratory Support / Pre-Analytical Laboratory ServicesPlace of Work (City/State): Toppenish, WASite: Yakama Service Unit — Portland Area Indian Health Service (IHS)Location: 401 Buster Road, Toppenish, WA 98948Duration: 6-Month contract + 6-Month Option PeriodShift Schedule: Day Shift Only, M-F, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, 8 hours per day / 40 hours per week maximumHow Many Shifts Needed Per Month: Approximately 20–22 shifts per month (Monday–Friday, excluding federal holidays and authorized closures)Credentialing / Onboarding Time: 6 to 8 weeksCertifications Current BLS CertificationPhlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized certifying body preferred and strongly recommended, including:American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) — PBT(ASCP)National Healthcareer Association (NHA) — CPTAmerican Medical Technologists (AMT) — RPTOR equivalent recognized phlebotomy certificationEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent required at minimumCompletion of an accredited phlebotomy training program or equivalent clinical training sufficient to meet the 1-year experience requirement and applicable certification standardsExperience Needed: Minimum 1 (one) year of experience working in phlebotomy in a clinical settingSpecial Skills NeededProficient venipuncture and phlebotomy technique with emphasis on patient safety and comfortPre-analytical specimen handling, processing, and labeling accuracyCLIA-waived testing with quality control complianceEHR documentation — RPMS experience preferred (Government orientation provided)Laboratory inventory managementFront-desk and reception skills — patient check-in, scheduling, and phone managementKnowledge of HIPAA, infection control, and applicable biosafety standardsStrong patient communication skills in a tribal healthcare environmentResponsibilitiesPerform phlebotomy and specimen collection with emphasis on patient safety and comfortSupport pre-analytical phase of laboratory testing including specimen handling and processingPerform CLIA-waived testing in compliance with quality control requirementsDocument patient information and specimen details accurately in EHR/RPMSManage laboratory inventory and maintain organized recordsOversee laboratory reception — patient check-in, appointment scheduling, and phone managementCoordinate patient flow to enhance efficiency and minimize wait timesComplete required IHS training, competency assessments, and department meetingsComply with HIPAA, Privacy Act, credentialing, background, and Public Law 101-630 requirementsSubmit all post-award documentation within 10 days of awardMaintain accurate daily timekeeping per IHS requirements
