OSS / Developer Relations Engineer
Wizard is the AI-native platform for creative work, starting with professional video: a native C++ editor and headless media runtime that humans, agents, and developers all operate.
Make Wizard's open format and SDK what developers, and the models they work with, reach for first.
Why this role matters
Imagine a developer asking a coding agent to take the footage on their desktop and cut them a vlog. We want that agent to reach for Wizard's open source code. The more models use our open format, the better they get at using our tools, and every finished project is one step from sharing it in WizReview. We're open sourcing the .wiz format, a reference library, and an SDK for plugins and presets. Every day it isn't out there is a loss.
About the role:
You'll report to Harry Pal, our Founding AI/ML Engineer, and be our first developer-facing engineer. Half your time is building: the format reference library, the plugins and presets SDK, examples, and agent integrations. The other half is making that work legible and loved: docs, tutorials, talks, and a community of developers, pipeline TDs, and AI builders shipping on Wizard.
What you'll do: Ship the .wiz format spec, reference library, and docs with Harry.
Ship SDK v0 for plugins and presets (nodes, pixel-processing effects, workflows, audio plugins) with real examples, before public launch.
Make models good at our code: examples, llms.txt, and evals that show how well agents use Wizard.
Run our open source projects: repos, issues, contribution guidelines, and releases.
Seed the Wizard Marketplace with its first creators of plugins and presets.
Build a developer community through demos, talks, livestreams, and pipeline and VFX meetups.
What you bring
Real engineering depth: you ship production code in C++ and at least one scripting language such as Python or TypeScript.
API and format taste: you can tell when an interface or file format will still be pleasant in five years.
Clear writing: your docs and examples get people to a working result in minutes.
Open source experience: you've maintained a project, run releases, and grown a community.
AI-assisted engineering: deep experience building with agents and AI coding tools.
Show us what you can do
We welcome different backgrounds. Evidence of a strong fit could include:
Open source you maintain or contributed to meaningfully, especially in media, graphics, or developer tooling (FFmpeg, OpenColorIO, OpenTimelineIO, OpenUSD, Blender, Remotion).
Docs, tutorials, or talks that developers actually used.
DevRel or developer experience work at Vercel, Hugging Face, Supabase, Pixar, or a company like them.
You do not need a DevRel title. We care about what you've built, what you've explained, and who used it.
About Wizard
Every so often, a new technology redefines how stories get told: the printing press, the telephone, radio, the film camera, the cutting room, television, the digital camera, non-linear editing. We think we're at the start of the next one, and we intend to build the company that defines it.
Wizard is the AI-native platform for creative work, starting with the hardest creative workflow: professional video. In roughly six months, our team built a native C++ editor and a headless media runtime that humans, agents, and developers all operate. Oz, our agent, ingests footage at roughly 300× real time and edits at 30–60× real time, and every change it makes stays inspectable, editable, and reversible.
Our philosophy is creative as code: every decision editable, controllable, composable, never generative slop you regenerate and hope for the best. Controllability over convenience. Artist integrity over automation. Taste over throughput.
Our sister company is Story, a production company making video for frontier AI labs and deep-tech companies. We work closely with them: Story is our first customer and in-house design partner, and its editors cut real client work on Wizard every day.
Our team comes from Industrial Light & Magic, Netflix, Apple, Epic Games, Lucasfilm, Blizzard, and 2K. We work in person in San Francisco.
