Assistant/Associate Professor - Exercise Science

PRIMARY PURPOSE/SCOPEThe successful candidate will teach both introductory and major courses with excellence in our well-established Exercise and Sport Science program, will lead and mentor students, and will work seamlessly and nimbly with faculty and staff. Additionally, the successful candidate will also serve as the Department Chair who will be responsible for program development, assessment, and sustainability. The teaching load for this position is 24 semester hours/year.FACULTY ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONSPrepare and deliver engaging material to undergraduate students of various backgrounds.Effectively utilize the University's learning management system.Assess student performance and adjust content and/or delivery strategies to meet the student's needs.Establish classroom and laboratory expectations and experiences for ESS courses.Become familiar with course offerings within and outside of the Department for advising and mentoring undergraduate students.Hold weekly office hours for student needs in fall/spring/summer.Recruit ESS students (in person/virtual/etc.).Participate in appropriate professional organizations.Serve on institutional committees as assigned.Attend faculty meetings and development workshops.Attend commencement.ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONSCoordinate and manage all aspects of SACSCOC accreditation for the ESS Department and its majors.Recommend the schedule of ESS classes to the Registrar.Assign teaching duties to full-time and adjunct faculty working within the Department.Lead and direct the development and maintenance of the ESS curriculum.Maintain a highly qualified adjunct pool for ESS courses.Serve as point of contact for ESS student issues.Participate in ESS program enhancement efforts.Provide relevant information on undergraduate students and the undergraduate program to be used in marketing materials (i.e., website, social media, brochures, newsletter, etc.).Carry the current credit hour annual course load.Recruit ESS students (in person/virtual/etc.).Develop and sustain the ESS program.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCEPossesses a faith and commitment to Jesus ChristDemonstrates a passion for seeing students persist to and through graduation into their careers.Is a highly motivated self-starter, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skillsDemonstrates a professional demeanor and presentation in dealing with the University constituencyHolds at least a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution, though a doctoral degree is desirableHas at least 3 years of experience in higher education working with the students, faculty, and administrative leadership in providing student support.Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and advanced learning technologies (i.e. Jenzabar, an administrative computing system)Demonstrates communication, organization, and facilitation skillsAble to interact with employees, potential students, and outside contacts of all levelsAble to prioritize and work to deadlinesSupervisory/managerial skills are necessary and the ability to help students with general study skills is a key asset.ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS* Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
