Manager, NPI Material Planning
What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a motivated, experienced, and knowledgeable manager to help lead inside the NPI Material Planning organization. The NPI Material Planning Manager will oversee various aspects of the daily planning operation, manage a team, and contribute to the long-term goals of the organization by driving strategic projects. The NPI Material Planning Manager main task is to bring new products to market by ensuring BOM accuracy and material readiness during the development and qualification of new products followed by the seamless transfer of responsibilities to sustaining material planning. A successful NPI Material Planning Manager is highly analytical, detail-oriented, resourceful, a strong communicator, and able to leverage relationships across the company to accomplish their goals. They must see the "bigger picture" in order to prioritize amongst competing timelines for various programs and execute soundly in a high-pressure environment. Balancing the operational and the strategic elements of NPI Material Planning will be an ongoing imperative. The ideal candidate has experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably working with medium-to-high volume products) or in a complex distribution network (again, preferably working in medium-to-high volume products) and is capable of translating their understanding of cross-functional processes into appropriate supply plans.
What You'll Do
Supervise the planning and ordering of time-critical materials to support Tesla's new programs while minimizing freight costs and maintaining optimal inventory levels (avoid both shortages and overages
Act as escalation point for material concerns, lead daily shortage meetings to ensure supply readiness and report Clear to build status (CTB)
Communicate program status (material and BOM readiness and health) as well as risks and issues to the program, key stakeholders and management on a regular basis, escalating issues in a timely manner, proposing solutions and driving resolution
Perform material and BOM risk assessments and seek lowest cost/risk solutions and drive multiple programs with different timelines and scope and supervise the NPI Material warehouse operation to ensure on time receiving, processing and delivery of parts for trials and pilot builds
Foster and develop a strong team of NPI Program managers through selective recruitment, training and coaching. Tasks include proactively planning resources, communicating job expectations, providing performance feedback and managing the team in line with Tesla's policies
Collaborate with other departments, including purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, logistics and demand planning to support quarterly operational and long-term scaling objectives and collaborate with purchasing, engineering, production, PMI and the program to launch all projects on time and at the lowest possible cost
Identify and communicate potential supply risks and collaborate with purchasing and supplier industrialization teams to resolve structural and commercial issues and identify and lead process improvement initiatives related to execution and planned growth
What You'll Bring
Degree in Supply Chain, Finance, Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience
Minimum 6 years experience in manufacturing, distribution, finance, or supply chain management and minimum 3 years experience managing others
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills in developing, implementing, and assessing key operational and financial metrics
Strong knowledge of MRP/ERP with a solid understand of discrete manufacturing, bills of material, product lifecycle management, procure to pay processes and supply chain operations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated skills in supplier operational and relationship management
Passionate and high energy, with the diplomacy and cooperative style necessary to positively influence others, both inside and outside of Tesla with demonstrated resilience and capacity to lead a team through periods of change
Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, particularly Enovia Matrix One is a plus

Expected Compensation
$140,000 - $210,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
