AV Systems Programmer

Overview The AV Systems Programmer is a core member of Code3AV's Engineering department, responsible for developing custom control system programs and user interfaces that bring our clients' visions to life. This role reports to the Chief Engineer and works closely with Operations, Project Managers, and Field Engineers to ensure every system Code3AV delivers is intuitive, reliable, and exactly what was promised. Programming is one of the most client-visible phases of any AV project — it's where hardware becomes a functional system the client actually uses. The AV Systems Programmer owns that transformation. A well-programmed system that works intuitively from day one is what separates a good project from a great one. This role spans the full programming lifecycle: pre-construction code preparation, offsite staging and testing, on-site support, client training, and closeout documentation. The AV Systems Programmer also coordinates with outsourced programming resources during high-volume periods and contributes to Code3AV's growing standards library. Living the W.I.R.E. Responsibilities Program Development Develop custom user interfaces using modern technologies, ensuring workflows are streamlined and appropriate for the application. Develop AV control system programs using the latest standards-based languages and software. Develop with the mindset that everything is created in small parts, and these parts could be broken off and used in future projects. Staging and Testing Configure AV system components, including control systems, network switches, endpoints, etc. Ensure systems are fully functional before shipping to the client. Every input, output, audio channel, touchpanel button, etc. is tested and validated. Coordination and Planning Participate in team meetings to review projects and align understanding with sales and engineering teams. Participate in client meetings to discuss workflows, demonstrate user interface designs, and ensure customer expectations align with executed statements of work. Field and Operations Support Work closely with field engineers to address deployment issues and last-mile customer preference requests. Develop user manuals and quick-guides for training and everyday operation. Provide post-installation end-user training on workflows for complex systems. Required Skills/Experience 5+ years of experience in the AV industry. 2+ years of experience programming control systems from leading AV manufacturers such as Crestron, Extron, and Q-SYS. Thorough understanding of network protocols, as they relate to the AV industry. Thorough understanding of audio signal processing and integration with leading manufacturers such as Q-SYS and Biamp. Strong ability to read and comprehend AV system contracts, drawings, and statements of work. Strong ability to translate client workflow concepts into intuitive, reliable, and aesthetically pleasing user interfaces. Strong ability to gracefully prevent excessive scope creep. Comfort developing custom interfaces with third-party equipment using IP, SSH, REST, RS-232, etc. The AV Systems Programmer does not fully rely on existing modules and libraries, but often develops their own. Comfort coordinating with external clients in a professional manner and maintaining a calm demeaner under stress. Crestron Masters Certified Programmer, Q-SYS Control 201 (or Big Exam), and Extron Authorized Programmer certifications preferred. Willingness to travel – 50%.
